The Raymond J. Lesniak Experience, Strength and Hope Recovery High School (ESH) is an alternative high school in New Jersey that serves high school-aged students who have struggled with substance use issues. ESH provides a unique educational environment that combines academic instruction with recovery support services, allowing students to continue their education while maintaining their sobriety. What’s notable about ESH is their specialized approach to supporting students in recovery. They offer a low student-to-staff ratio, on-site recovery support services, and emphasize positive peer connections to help students remain clean and sober while working towards high school graduation. This model addresses a critical need, as research shows that 8 out of 10 students who return to their prior high schools after achieving sobriety will experience a recurrence within the first 6 months. By providing a supportive, recovery-focused environment, ESH aims to improve outcomes for students struggling with addiction and give them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
