I love BAI. Their 14-day intensives are comprehensive, powerful, and well worth the investment.

Sharing for spouses. I was impressed that BAI involved and supported spouses, asking them to participate in the intake, and providing support for them while husbands are gone. When my husband came home, he seemed completely changed. He was saying empathetic things I’d hoped to hear for years. He seemed open, remorseful and willing to do whatever it took to heal. Unfortunately, this lasted ten days, and he reverted back to the unempathetic defensive posture I’d experienced for so long. I was so hopeful that the aftercare would continue working through both the trauma he’s experienced as well as the trauma he’s inflicted. His recovery plan that was developed at bai was not ever considered for his continuance in aftercare. Bai’s aftercare completely drops the ball. There is no accountability. They are happy to take the money month after month from clients who don’t do 12 step work or have sponsors. While their program on site gets input from the spouse and treats them like the victims they are, there is no check-in, no evaluation, to help the counselors figure out where the men actually need help once they’re in aftercare. There’s no feedback loop. When I reached out to them to say my husband wasn’t doing well, it was pushed off as a marriage issue, and not an addiction issue. I remained connected with other spouses for years afterwards and the story of very short lived empathy followed by reverting to harmful re-traumatizing experiences is about 8 out of 10. Overall, I think if bai revamped their aftercare, kept spouses feedback as a valid input, and worked on empathy they’d have a much higher success rate, but as they are, as a spouse, they have participated in my husband’s denial and lack of empathy.

Begin Again Institute does amazing work! I just sent a client down there who was really struggling with an ability to connect emotionally with himself, his partner, or anyone else. After spending two weeks with the amazing team at Begin Again Institute, he was able to hold his partners gaze and talk about his feelings in a way I’ve never seen him do before. Their work is absolutely incredible and very impactful. I highly recommend them.

I came in with childhood trauma, and left even more traumatized, and a shaky marriage left even worse. Really, only a CSAT (certified sex addiction therapist) is qualified to treat sex addiction, and BAI has none on staff. Every staff member is a recovering sex addict, but they all have serious issues with protecting confidentiality, personal privacy, and telling their clients the truth. (Not my opinion about the truth - they made claims about the dates and substance of their contacts with my personal CSAT that she confirmed to be outright lies). I can also confirm that BAI completely abused the power they have. They take your phone and all means of outside communication. When I told the Director that his staff had destroyed my trust, he threatened to kick me out. Utterly unprofessional. They solicited my wife to write an impact statement (something used only in 1 on 1 therapy) and humiliated all the clients by having them read it in a group setting. Utterly unprofessional. They contacted my CSAT mid-treatment (which I later discovered that they lied about), and divulged confidentially given personal information without my informed consent in a group session. Not only unprofessional, but a violation of federal law Sign on with these people at your peril.

Attended an intensive with the Boulder Recovery Path back in Jan 2023. I cannot begin to express the level of care, compassion and support the entire team at Begin Again Institute showed me. From the time I called admissions, until the time I was back in my family's arms, these folks held me up. Not only did I learn an immense amount about myself I was also reignited on my path to love the Lord. This program is a Godsend and I am truly grateful for them and I know my family speaks the same. The partner support program is a wonderful addition to the families healing as well!.
