Treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders, which affect the majority of individuals diagnosed, integrates care for mental health conditions with primary substance use. Personalized care plans are crafted to effectively address each condition simultaneously, optimizing the healing process.

ZERO STARS. Monarch presents itself as a resource for the vulnerable, but in practice, it feels more like a corporate machine designed to appear caring while maximizing reimbursements and minimizing actual care. It’s a “pump and dump” model of healthcare — draw people in, check the boxes, then push them back into the queue with no meaningful follow-up 30+ days. stay away at all costs. save yourself from this place. they dont care about you.

So Grateful For This Place!!

Would not recommend this. **************** TL;DR — Monarch is trash. Everyone who was supporting me was borderline enraged at this place. There's some good people, but I would only recommend this is you are unable to afford/commute to any other provider. **************** While I want to believe this array of providers wants to help, I was frustrated with my experience and concerned regarding the quality of care. I went to another outpatient office of theirs for evaluation, medication, and therapy. At the other outpatient location previously I received an initial assessment, an appoint for further comprehensive clinical evaluation, and follow up therapy visits. However, their scheduling was way, way, WAY too far out. In my specific example, when I came in for symptoms of depression, anxiety, and insomnia, they set the evaluation where medication managment would be discussed/prescribed for 7 weeks away. (*Opinion* — That's wild to be told to wait 2 months, and maybe even borderline unacceptable, when you are going through something extreme and need immediate therapeutic intervention.*) I had one single therapy appointment. The provider was trying, but I was left feeling like the 1 hour appointment was unhelpful and ineffective. I was pretty told (paraphrased), "Suck it up." Not only was it unsatisfactory, they assigned me a DIFFERENT therapist for the next appointment. (*Opinion — How are you supposed to make progress with a therapist if they keep changing? He barely had any helpful suggestions or effective input, let alone providing relief or meaningful solutions.*) So I got an assessment day one, a sub-par therapy appointment, and had 6 more weeks to go until any medication intervention to relief active distress. All I could do was cope. So with 3 weeks to go, I visited THIS urgent care facility. The nurse practitioner was kind and helpful. She was good at listening and lead her professionalism with solid empathy and care. The dual-session (1) therapist & (2) nurse practitioner was a WHOLE different story. Their demeanor was cold, standoffish, passive, and aggressive. Ultimately, they didn't focus on the dynamics of these multiple issues, and single-objective-minded formed their treatment solution around what THEY wanted, instead of listening to my requests for medication management to address anxiety and sleeplessness. They heard "depression" and ignored everything else. The therapist literally laughed in my face at the appointment. The nurse cornered me with threats to commit me, leaving me feeling my autonomy was not being respected. I felt that what root issues which were causing things were not being weighted evenly. They strong-armed me. They were so extreme that they wanted to commit me. I was given the option to admit myself to a hospital or be involuntarily committed. Here's the thing; they only listed Wake Med and UNC Rex. They completely omitted Duke Hospital (funny right? more on this later). Long story short, Duke Raleigh took me in and evaluated me and COMPLETELY DISAGREED that I required involuntary in-patient treatment. I spoke with a psych doctor resident who addressed everything and admitted Monarch does this a LOT when unnecessary. She literally laughed at them and their practice. She discharged me with resources and clean bill of health. I went to another provider called Carolina Outreach which was so much faster, so much more helpful, and continues to be effective, professional, and consensual.

gaslit me for 2 years about my diagnosis. would not treat my mental health conditions- and this made me stuck unable to access better care . don’t waste your time.

Don’t waste your time here. Nurse practitioner Shanette argues with patients and doesn’t listen to nor consider your needs. She was awful, more hurtful than helpful and now I have to suffer because of refusal to get me the help I needed. What’s the point of this facility when your in complete opposition to patients needs?

I recently had to utilize the services at BHUC for a family member. I was hesitant to come here because of the negative reviews from the past, but wow was I blown away by how great our experience was! I started off by calling and spoke to a very friendly front desk member who was very helpful and kind. When we arrived, the facility was clean, cool & we were offered snacks/drinks. My family member met with a wonderful therapist who did a thorough assessment and then met with a very qualified NP who treated us with dignity, respect and kindness. Truly couldn't have asked for a better experience!

I was referred to this urgent care office as a last resort after days of dead ends. I drove almost an hour desperately searching for immediate solutions. I walked in, to a completely empty waiting room, and told the woman at front desk that I was referred here and needed an assessment. She responded in a cold tone that I needed to go to the outpatient center next door. As I mentioned previously, desperate, I told her with tears in my eyes I was referred to this office for immediate care. She glared at me and rudely said “you have to be suic!dal or hom!cidal”. I was in disbelief, simply turned, and walked out without the help I needed. To that woman, people like you are part of the problem. Those with mental health issues already have trouble reaching out for help - considering this is a crisis office I would recommend you find a different job so people like me actually receive the help they deserve going forward.
