Campus for Healing and Growth YSS provides a wide range of services aimed at supporting youth and families in Iowa, with tailored services at each of their campuses. Their 70-bed Ember Recovery Campus cares for youth 12 to 18 and young adults ages 18-24 with substance use disorders, led by a founder in long-term recovery. The peaceful, 50-acre campus provides a calm space for reflection, recovery, and personal growth. Therapy Meeting Clients Where They Are The campus offers individualized, gender-specific care in a peaceful, remote location. Therapists determine which evidence-based therapies to use with each client to build trust, develop healthy coping skills, and address the root causes of addiction. They tend to use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), trauma therapy, multidimensional family therapy (MDFT), systems training for emotional predictability and problem solving (STEPPS), and group therapy. Nature Walks and Room to Breathe In addition to counseling, the Ember Recovery Campus uses nature for healing. Their campus includes walking trails to immerse in nature, and their indoor spaces include a recreation room and a fitness center. Planning for Life Beyond Treatment Ember’s youth can stay on track with education while in treatment. Staff tutor students to stay on track with their schooling, including with their SAT and ACT test prep. They also help teens build support systems for life after treatment, including family involvement and aftercare planning.

YSS used to be an amazing organization that truly cared about the people it served, but it’s gone downhill fast over the past decade. Leadership has completely lost touch — cutting important programs and laying off the staff who actually cared about making a difference. The good people are gone, and what’s left feels hollow. It’s sad to see how much the agency has changed and how far it’s drifted from the values and purpose that once made YSS a trusted, respected place in the community.

Similar to another reviewer, I also found out five days before YSS closed its Psychiatric Medication Management services. I consider myself fortunate to have had an appointment before the first of July where I was able to find out directly from my Doctor, and not over a vague email. Thankfully also I'm not currently on any medications like lithium, and my doctor was able to send out 4 months of prescriptions.. people taking Psychiatric Medications are very vulnerable people, and to take an important service away from us without adequate time for us (OR THE DOCTORS) to prepare at all is extremely unethical to say the very least. I've also had a lot of trouble getting a hold of anyone for the last three or so years with phone calls. My doctor, Brittany Sherwood, has always been great, and I hope I can continue to see her somewhere else, somewhere better.

I was told I had 5 days to find another psychiatric provider because they were canceling all of my appointments. All providers around the area have at least a 6 week waiting period! It gave me less than a week to call around to figure out how I'm going to have enough refills for highly necessary psychiatric medication! I'm on these for a reason!!

terrible organization. no one picks up the phone. all of my appointments were just canceled and now i'm not able to get my meds that i need. this should be illegal.

Is part of your rehabilitation constantly feeding these teens burnt food?? So sad they can't even have proper nutrition while they are working on their mental health!

Never would I recommend this program to anyone. After the damage inflicted by your staff, it has taken 30 years to trust another therapist to actually treat the problem, not the symptom.
