Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital

The admissions department was absolutely amazing and helpful during the admissions process. they were able to answer any questions we had.we’ve had multiple people tell us they would pick Erlanger as a behavioral health hospital. thank you guys for making the process as smooth as possible!

I have a family member at this location and I’ve been able to talk to them and then all of a sudden now I can’t talk to them because they didn’t give he didn’t give me his patient number but I can’t get his patient number unless he gives it to me but I tried telling them to have him call me so I can get the patient number and then they say that they cannot confirm or deny that he’s there; like I know he’s there I’ve talked to him yesterday and I talked to the nurse at the nursing station this morning, and they told me that he was at breakfast and to call back and I haven’t been able to get a hold of anybody until 4:30 PM and they’re saying some BS about needing a patient code!!

Erlanger Behavior Health traumatized me. and many, many other children. i’m not sure about adults because i cannot speak for what i didn’t see and or hear. but in my experience me or any other patient should have NEVER had to whiteness/go through the things we did. there was a girl there that i had met and she had been there for a month. one of the longest stays reported/talked about. i thought i would only be there about 5 days, but no. i was there for about two months from what family has told me. but i had no idea, and that’s because they overdosed me on meds i never needed. i wasn’t me let alone anymore sane than i was when i went in there. i lost an unhealthy amount of weight due to the overdose, and after a year was never able to get it back up on my own. it wrecked me, and changed me as a person. i now today am healthy thanks to a weight gaining pill, which is crazy bc pills is what done it in the first place. and i’ll share a few of some of my MANY traumatic stories that i somewhat remember. because the brain damage from the pills and everything i went through also gave me long-term memory loss. but i whitnessed CHILDREN being held down and injected in the arm with what we call “booty juice” which is in the name which is made to go into your butt. their arm swelled up and looked like a tumor, the craziest thing i had ever seen. but this is to not be used unless it is very much needed. but sometimes kids are also just overwhelmed and high off al the drugs were forced to take. and half the time it’s really not our fault. and they would hand out booty juice left and right like it was nothing! which also messes with you very badly getting it so often. it puts you to sleep for 1-2 days. but course we’re not allowed in our rooms from about 7:15 until it’s bed time, nor allowed to sleep. i watched a girl choke a staff members first night while banging the staffs head on the wall and almost killing the staff. i watched a girl hang herself with a charging cord. i watched a girl peel back her own skin and flesh. i watched many many traumatic fights. but did it ever cross the hospitals minds that maybe it’s because some/most of us truly did not need to be there. did it ever cross their minds that we just needed someone to talk to? or just therapy. did it ever cross their minds that all these meds are so unhealthy for children and most of them we never needed? and what about the staff? they were horrible. the had mean things to constantly say, never took care of us correctly. hated and talked foul upon all these girls in my unit. and only did what was best for them on their timing bc their job was “so hard”. well then maybe you shouldn’t be there. i couldn’t put into words how horrible we were all treated, ESPECIALLY by staff. and half the time it was because they were scared of their boss. i can’t remember her name, but at the time she was pregnant and im pretty sure she was indian (maybe mixed with something else). the place is so torn down and probably a lot of health hazards. and lastly did it ever cross ANY of their minds that most of us just needed loved. and not sent off to a place to get help but instead we got even more bashed and hated upon.

My experience at Erlanger Behavioral Health was honestly traumatizing, and people deserve to know what really goes on inside this facility. I came in expecting safety, structure, and basic human care, and instead I experienced neglect, disrespect, and extremely unprofessional treatment from staff. I did not see a psychiatrist or a social worker until day four. For four days I sat there with no evaluation, no treatment plan, no medication adjustments, and no explanation of what was happening. I was left completely in the dark, which is unacceptable in any behavioral health facility. The techs treated patients horribly. Many of them spoke to patients with attitude, acted annoyed when anyone asked questions, and made people feel like burdens instead of human beings. Compassion and professionalism were extremely lacking. The entire place was understaffed. They promised daily groups and outdoor time, but went outside twice and groups were rare or rushed. Most days we sat around the tv with nothing to do, which is the opposite of therapeutic support. I didn’t receive my clothes until almost the second week I was there. For days, I wore the same clothes, I felt dirty, embarrassed, and ignored. Every time I asked about my belongings, I was brushed off. One night, I woke up to a male staff member standing directly over me while I was asleep. I felt terrified and violated. When I told the techs, they laughed at me instead of taking it seriously. They didn’t investigate it. They didn’t reassure me. They made me feel even more unsafe. Patients were treated like scum, not like people who were there to get help. There was no dignity, no respect, and no sense of safety. Most of us were already struggling, and the staff only made everything worse. Erlanger Behavioral Health made one of the hardest experiences of my life so much worse. I would never recommend this facility to anyone who genuinely needs help. Patients deserve safety, compassion, and respect, and I received none of that here.

This place is absolutely ridiculous. My brother was sent her (which we thought would be helpful) but they did nothing. He was sent home about a week later with no diagnosis, no plan, no nothing. He is in critical shape and they let him just go. The communication is terrible. Family has no idea what is going on and what they are doing. You cant visit to even see what the care and day might look like. So my brother is out and no better, he is worse. This place should have to answer for lack of care.

I was on a 5 day voluntary stay at this facility. For the most part, the staff does seem to genuinely care, especially the nurses and doctors. Techs are iffy, but that can be said for any facility like this. One tech in particular, Danielle can be cruel at times towards vulnerable patients and had little patience. It was clear she did not enjoy her job nor have any passion for the profession, which reflected in the flippant and dismissive manner she treated patients. Otherwise, the other techs, nurses, and doctors were kind and helpful. The main complaint I have about this facility boils down to the EXTREME lack of staffing. There would commonly be one tech to watch over 25-30 patients, which would cause frustration as patients' essential needs like hygiene, hydration, and restroom breaks would get looked over because the tech was just spread too thin. I was also wearing the same clothes that I came in with all 5 days because they would not give me my clothes that I brought and they KEPT running out of paper scrubs because everyone else was having the same issue. Every patient in my unit felt like they were dirty because we had to put on the same dirty clothes everyday. Not to mention the smell, as we were all basically just marinating in the same room all day. And yes, we did essentially sit in a room all day watching tv instead of having the groups we were supposed to have. We were supposed to have 3-4 groups per day and outside time. I went outside twice in 5 days and had 2 groups. This is also a factor of the extreme understaffing, as the techs and nurses were too overwhelmed/burnt out to follow the day to day schedule exactly and a lot slipped through the cracks. Overall, this facility is not the worst I have ever been to, and there are genuinely kind and caring people here. But there are also issues of neglect of patients due to understaffing, so you need to be able to advocate for yourself here.

So I was a patient on the adolescent unit. This place promised my parents daily therapy, support and ‼️ safety ‼️ which I got none. I know I shouldn’t blame this on the facility but the way they handled it is one of my reasons for a one star. I got beat up by two kids and they just locked me up in my room (after the er cleared me) and it didn’t take until my parents pressed charges that they did anything about the kid. The staff were not nice and the nurses told me I just “needed a change of scenery” when I was about to pass out. I hate this place and I wouldn’t send my worse enemy.

I couldn't wait to get back out of the doors of this place. Very unprofessional, the guys kept walking up and down past the ladies rooms all night. Scary situation, the lady doctor was rude didn't Care. Go somewhere else
