Delta Specialty Hospital

If you are reading this, you care about your health or your loved ones health enough to do your research. I am an RN in a hospital in West TN and my mother was told this hospital was a good option for her when we went to our local ER after she attempted suicide. I can tell you DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY OR SEND YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE. I (her next of kin and historian) was never contacted unless I called and called asking for a Dr or social worker to call me. My mother was put in the shower the first day she was there with brand new stitches. She repeatedly asked for new dressings a toothbrush and toothpaste (sometimes receiving them others not at all). I was given excuse after excuse of a skeleton staff because of the winter weather. Every time my mother was able to call she had to do so from a day room where to TV was always very loud and I could hardly hear her and we had to yell at each other to have a conversation. I ultimately made the decision to transfer her out when she told me that while she was standing in the hall waiting for a toothbrush/toothpaste, and gown at bedtime (that she ultimately didn't receive) one tech walked up to another and loudly said "I think I'll just go commit suicide" and they both laughed. She was the only one in the hallway and She said I know this was meant towards me. NO ONE should be treated this way ever and NO ONE can get better in this environment. Completely inhuman. The communication with family is non existent unless you call and call everyday. The only way to get her out of there was to get her to sign an AMA and pick her up and took her to another facility. I am telling you, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in Delta Specialty Hospital. This place DOES NOT care about your dignity nor treat you like a human being. Cold turkey stopped all her meds and started one new medicine then another a few days later and never told her or I about the new medication. I only found out when reviewing the records I requested emailed to me before she left. Please just do not send any elderly here or anyone you want to get better.

Taking care of love ones and call service is very nice answered my question and I am confident

Honestly doesn't deserve a 1 star. This place is horrendous. I tried to talk to patient advocate for two weeks while I was there and was never allowed to. The day I was leaving I asked to speak to him again and was told he wasn't there funny thing was when I went to go leave guess who checked me out that's right the one and only patient advocate.i had a stroke on father's day of 2025 and they wouldn't fix my shower curtain I slipped on the floor because it was soaked and my lower back landed on the shower base not once but three different times. Several times vitals were never taken med were never dispensed they Honestly should do a 60 days in type of project on this place and change alot of things for the better. But that will never happen they don't want to expose themselves which is sad. It's not about the patient it's about the money they could care less about you.

Very comfortable facility and compassionate staff towards the clients, very informative knowledge of living a better life and lifestyle taking your meds, whether if a client is suffering depression, anxiety,bi-polar/schizophreniaand other systems that a person in dealing in life, bringing a client of the facility on dealing with life on a much better scale in life, a shout out to my favorite Doctors--Verk and Mirza, and I can't leave out a shout to Gregg-- the patient advocate, Alex,Brain, Mrs.Marshal,and Mrs.Ann,/ and the one and only Mrs, Ruby--Floor Supervisor,a great team of medical professionals that I have called Family,since losing my mother. My baby mother in 2017, my oldest brother,Jr. In 2023, my last and only aunty, this lady past year in 2024, to getting past,thru addiction into this day in recovery, living a better life and lifestyle with the help of Delta Specialty Hospital/ and staff ,thank you send Zgod Bless you all/Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year--2026, love from Andre' (Unbelievable/ but believeable.!

Keeping in mind this is a highly understaffed state-run facility, my biggest complaint is the shortage of hygeine-related things such as patients having to use washcloths as shower towels, sheets as blankets, handwashing dispensers were usually empty, my shower had a dirty bandaid in it for 5 days( I refused to touch it) the cooling/heating unit filters haven't been cleaned/changed in at least 5-7 years, 2-3 times we had no access to napkins (during meals!), and for the love of healthy lungs in this hospital; PLEASE INSPECT AND REMOVE THE BLACK MOLD! I noticed it in most AC units but ESPECIALLY in the cafeteria where mold has grown/ expanded on/spread across ceiling. Yes I understand this is a state-run psych facility and comfort is not a priority. But those day room "chairs" are nothing short of torturous. I'm not advocating for top line, plush, ergonomic seating. Maybe toss in a few bean bag s or even a heavy but cushioned chair. Many patients are elderly with advanced arthritis. Or, like myself, suffer early-onset multilevel Degenerative Disc Disease. Also...I was not given a copy of my patients rights or received any information at all. I had to ask the nurse for a copy. She asked why did I want it? Woogie printed it out for me. None of the other patients received their admission paperwork. Most didn't know who their psych MD was. I was unable to practice my religion altho I asked for staff to call the Catholic Church's priest on call. My husband dropped off a bag of clothes I didn't receive for 3 days altho I asked several time. I had to wear the same clothes for 4 days/nights My roommate was allowed to have a hardback book to read. Yet mine (same size) was considered contrand Several of my family members called multiple times. Some were hung up. My outside psychologist called 4 times before I could speak to him. Next, I'd like to (happily) call out some staff members who (I feel) genuinely enjoy working with us patients. (Or they do a fantastically genuine portrayal-of. Lol) *Please excuse me in advance. I don't know all their names/correct spelling- of: #1) LaTroya; Therapist/social worker I got more therapy/positive experiences from Ms LaTroya (excuse the possible butchering of your name) than my own therapist.(whom, btw, was kind but I only saw her a couple times in the hallway for 3-5 mins) When LaTroya leads group...everybody listens and participates. Even the floor sleepers. One group lasted 3 hours. Felt like 20 minutes. We need more LaTroyas. She gets things done. Even if you are not on her caseload. Thank you for helping us make the best out of a not-so-great situation! 2) Rec Therapists: Vic enjoys interacting with the patients. He's creative, fun, down to earth, and has a natural way of engaging with the patients 3) The other Rec Therapist, a female whose name eludes me, she was super-chill, respectful to all patients, and possessed a genuine calm demeanor. My favorite game was the cups/ping pong ball activity. 4)Woogie the RN. Laid back and professional, he gets things done. He makes folks here feel less like "mental" patients. Treated us kindly and respectfully. He's also a good listener. 5) Most of the techs and other staff were kind and helpful. Giving us things like body wash and specialty flavored coffee creamers--oh and donuts!!- small gestures like that can really brighten up a locked-up patient's day. **I did notice staff seemed to favor patients who act up then "calm down." Essentially, rewarding the bad behavior while others never acting-out at all. Overall, it was a very...humbling, at times traumatic, but most of all EXTREMELY uncomfortable and VERY boring experience Dr Nic Daily Independent investigative reporter

This was the absolutely worst institution that I have ever seen for mental health. They inflict more harm than good on the patients. They DO NOT attend to patients immediate physical needs affecting their mentality which allows them to assess unsubstantiated mental health & to keep their census. Some staff are rude & unknowledgeable & doctor that threatens patients with going before the judge to intimidate patients to stay longer on his terms, since he has rarely shown himself when patients are told he will be there. SHUT IT DOWN! THEY ARE THE ONES THAT NEED MENTAL HEALTH.

I was referred to delta specialty hospital August last year for detox, and I truly mean it was the WORST experience of my life. I walked in to the most hateful person I’ve ever met, a man who was angry bc he had to do my intake. I get taken to the dual diagnosis floor for detox, and immediately see a tech, feet propped up, on her phone asleep. It took an hour for the nurse to ask me questions and do my vitals. I get taken to my “room” where no bed had sheets, except the one with dirty blankets and sheets (I was told to use those when I asked for new ones) and enter the bathroom to feces in and on the toilet, and a urinalysis cup full of urine of the previous patient. I was unable to contact anyone for DAYS, they would not give my emergency contact any info, not even confirm I was THERE, and didn’t even give me medication during withdrawal for the first 1-2 days. I was quite literally miserable. 90% of the techs were hateful, rude, judgmental, and would literally call any of people struggling with addiction “junkies and pieces of shit”. I could NEVER get in contact with a Dr or case worker. I saw my case worker I think twice in the 8 days they would NOT let me leave, and she was useless to me. The only way I got through those 8 days was dissociating from the situation and hoping to god that I would get out every single day that passed. I wanted to leave the day I got there, and no one took what I was saying into consideration. It wasn't because I didn’t want detox, I genuinely wanted to go ANYWHERE but this place. Please, never ever go to this hospital. The rehab I ended up going to after this even contacted them telling them to transfer me and let me go, and reported them to the state. Even after I finished my detox meds (4 day taper) I was STILL there for 2 more days for literally no reason. They kept me for one reason, to drain my insurance for everything they could. Let’s also not forget, I did not receive my CLOTHES I brought for THREE DAYS. yes, I was stuck in the same clothes for days (also as a female on my cycle at the time I entered this hell hole). They would lock us out of our rooms ALL DAY, with only one restroom in the day room, but guess what? The toilet was out of order 90% of the time I was there! Oh, and they took the one water jug we had away, and replaced it with a tea pitcher which would be empty the moment they filled it because there were many patients, and then the nurses would get ill bc they had to keep filling it up! Oh, and the day they made us eat a sack lunch, and our chicken salad sandwiches were infested with ANTS! I mean, I really wish I WAS making this up. To think there are truly mentally ill people in this place, who cannot advocate for themselves is heartbreaking. Even being me, who did advocate for myself, I still didn’t get anywhere or any help that I needed during detox. The only thing that made this bearable was the two community cigarettes I got everyday and I don’t EVEN smoke cigs! This place needs shut down. Period.

I did IOP and it was such a great program I got everything I was looking for the staff was so nice starting with Miss Yolanda Mr Ron Vic Carolyn Angela such sweet peoples very professional if I had to do it again I will they was so nice good team work 💯❤️keep up the good work 👍
