Gulf Coast Treatment Center

Only giving this place two stars because of the staff, which were mostly great. I was placed here in the middle of 2023 to early 2024. Although I wasn't the best kid, I wasn't even treated like a human most of the time. The food was raw, and one of my peers even found a blender blade in their soup(which is so crazy!?!). The incentives were nice. But sometimes it got a little crazy in general. The riots were insane and could lead to people getting hurt. The doors were never fixed, making it easy for people to bust them down. Very easy to escape from. Not the best place regarding mental health, my therapist would literally talk smack about the other kids with me(said therapist isn't working there anymore, so that's good). Love Ms holiness, Mr berto, Ms Kate/Kitty(I LOVE YOU MS KATE!!!!) Ms Janice and all of night shift during that time. I really think this place could be improved by its food, protection, and therapy. Very easy to self harm there, and very easy to get contraband.

I was here back in 2015. The staff were very nice. Especially Mr.Greg, he was from Guam. I loved the 2 therapists Angela Trawick and Kara!! Idk if they are still there. The food was good when I was there. I remember going to the beach and various outings. Even the two teachers were nice, it was a black male teacher and an older white lady teacher and she was so sweet. I remember sharing a room with 3 other girls and the bathroom was in the room. Downstairs was a male detention center.

I was there for over a year and i can say it was a little rough at first but after i left i realized that it really had helped me. I met a lot of cool staff and made bonds with them shoutout to zckj squad (ms kamilah,ms zamiya,and ms julia,and ms chelsea. i do think there should be contact with staff after i leave bc it had made such a impact not being able to talk to them. But in general it did help me i'm not better than i ever have been and i don;t fight anymore or try to hurt myself because i remember what zckj always use to tell me. i don't give up anymore bc ms zamiya used to say you don't win when you don't try you just are loosing willignly i love and miss them a lot and if i could say thank u i would. Seeing past all the drama it was actually all i wanted and needed in a resiedential.

i was there 2023-24 i was there for 11 and 18 days and it wD the worst thing that ever happened in my life. most of the staff where absolutely amazing and such but the food was awful for example fhe chicken was always bloody and never cooked fully. and there are a lot of "riots" where the kids go absolutely crazy and i mean crazy like busting through doors, fighting each other an staff, and such and distorting property. but i will say i did enjoy when they would have incentives for kids who behave, like they had water days and a few dances that we got to wear prom like dresses for and those where amazing things. tho im not sure if they still do all that but that was my experience. i also like how kids on level 3 and 4 get to go on outings and stuff those where always fun. so it really depends on the day if it was good or not i guess. oH! and when i was there, there was a staff member named miss hollyness (idk how to spell sorry) and she would do these games nights and we won amazing prizes and stuff for kids who behaved and i always loved those nights! but ofc i don't know if she still works there or not. (sorry for such a long review)

This hospital had tried to help me and in a way they did. The only thing I would say is the reason it didn't help was because I wasn't ready to help myself. But now I am 19 yrs old and living my best way. No more self harm no more eating disorder. I love myself and my life. So thank you Ms Nicole. Ms holliness. Ms Ashley. Ms Jamie Mr berto Ms julia

I think I got admitted there October 17th 2022 and left June 7th 2023 and I will say, it was rough the first few months but it helped me more than any other place has. I built such good relationships with the staff and a few girls (the rest were kinda insane) and conversations I had specifically with Ms Ashley helped me get my head on straight. There was a lot of tough love, but it’s what I needed. If you don’t act up, you won’t get snatched up. I left when I when I was 15, now I’m 18 and moved out about to go to college and major in psychology!! (Shouting out Ms Bee, Mr Berto, Ms Holliness, MS JAMIE, Ms Ashley) yall helped me so much :)) (It’s K-pop Camryn if you remember😅) This facility honestly saved my life and I’m so grateful.

Spent 1.5 years there from 1.2009-9.2010 ... I have such mixed feelings. Being unable to get kicked out, Gulf Coast forces you to confront your issues, utilize positive coping skills, and work your treatment plan. It definitely made me into a better individual because of it. I loved my therapist and still maintain a relationship with them today as well as some fellow patients like myself. The minimal negatives I have are so severe that I feel the need to give such a subpar rating .... at the time, select staff members would abuse their power and instigate people to the point they freak out and require hands on restraint. As someone whose been to 10 different residential centers and a frequent flyer at my juvenile detention center in Pennsylvania, I've never been restrained in such a painful manner in my life. Other patients had torn nerves and other serious injuries because of it. The staff would take their bad mood out on you,and because of the different protocols (punishment you receive for bad behavior), you could never really stand up for yourself. I also didn't like having to use the corner of my Styrofoam take out container as a fork or spoon because being on protocol made it so you couldn't eat in the Cafe with the rest of the community. I feel they should provide an alternative utensil if they are giving no choice in the matter. I hope it's gotten better in those aspects in the last 15 years. But I can honestly say GCTC definitely helped me with life skills in the long run and I'm thankful.

Hated it there too I got sent there from Delaware which made it worse father u were from home worse they made it for u. Food sucked so bad but I was there back in 2018-2019
