The absolute best place on earth

Went here as a kid back in 2015-2016 year. This place was traumatizing as a 12 year old kid who didn’t know where I was going or nor what was going on. This place didn’t help me nor my family at all. I remember my first day the put me in a room and told me to take my clothes off. There was specifically one staff member who was very nice and friendly last name door. I remember I ended up self harming and they didn’t care just told me to sleep in the living room made me carry a heavy bed I couldn’t even lift. While my arms were in so much pain. And 1 year after being released I was put in foster care. When I attended this place my name was Abigail, after being in foster care I got adopted and my name changed

I was in CY3 and they saved me. I was lost and honestly I needed to be grounded. They taught me life skills I still use today! Honestly most of the kids who say they get abused or neglected by staff are pathological liers, the staff are not ut caring, they go out their way to bend their backs and try to give all of our selfish kids a childhood. It may seem like your trapped some days of repeating weeks, but honestly in life it'll never be as structured as it is in Youth Villages. I had a mentor who loved me deeply and I loved her I would give the world to talk to her and my staff. I made mistake and said words to some staff that I wish I could take back but I can't, even if they already forgave me I still feel remorseful. Even with that I was to thank you Youth Villages, for showing me I can still be a kid! ❤️

I went there 5 year ago, and have both love and hate for it and people who worked there, I remember not liking the food, having to put ponchos on and walk in the rain to the cafeteria, some kids got to stay behind and the other group had to bring the food back to them, no electronics could only have two personal books in your room at a time, you messed up they put you in a padded room called the “quiet room” and if you continue or show any aggression Moc (manager on campus) would come flying in vans and running up stairs to put kids in restraints, I remember one manager ms mosey, I felt scared and sorry for kids when she was angry, remember in classroom there was daily poems and if you wrote you could read one poem triggered a kid who nearly broke the double panel glass with a desk in rage even the adults were afraid and basically keep the classsroom door closed with the kid inside until he calmed down then still put him in a hold and transported to the quiet room, certain days when you could make phonecallls (had a approved list) 15 minutes is all you get and if it was not your day and your having a bad day and ask to talk to your parents that’s not going to happen, place felt like a prison amount of times I heard code brown ( kid trying to run away) over the radios. There was some good I enjoyed Mr Shaw the recreation guy did kayak and caving and got to go to an actual restaurant and eat some good food. Depending on how well you behaved decides your bedtime, camera on you 24/7 even as you sleep only peace was the bathroom and you get 10 minutes to shower water was almost always cold. There was some staff who tried to help and did help, then you had the ones who made everyone do 5 minutes of silent if any noise they whole group had to do it again and punishments given out sometimes to the individual sometimes the staff would say for everyone. There was some good and I try to see the positive but all these things I witness and experience in there I can ignore, it is the place I have broken my first and only bone, and they asked me if I could move and they said ah your fine only till after I discharged and month of pain from it I learnt it was broken. Changes hopefully were made if not they should be. I was to afraid to post before but now that I am older I don’t want anyone to go through that the way I did.

Was here in 2020 I have nothing nice to say about this horrible place. the only good part of this place was ms brown and Ms woody and the therapists. And the rec lady. Their is very few people who actually wanted to help kids and make an impact and miss brown was one the few who I still remembe always made me feel heard and gave me advice I’ll remember forever . a lot of mental abuse I broke bones here they don’t understand mental illness and disorders like dissociative identity disorder which I’m diagnosed with their not equip for did systems just dont send your kids here if they mental health issues. I’m autistic and a lot of people would handle my meltdowns wrong but ms woody just got me away from the noise and I was fine. Hire better people who don’t abuse kids and domt care just for the money and it’ll be a good place. The therapist were ok but kept pushing our system to integrate which can be dangerous for heavily traumatized did systems wss on cy 4.

This place quite literally allowed a patient to unalive my current bf back in 2012. He has permanent brain damage. They take a lot of kids from jail. Please do not send your kids here.

I lived here for 6 months 15-16 years old. The abuse is crazy. I watched a 12 year old boy get restrained for turning off the TV. They are deleting reviews. I'm 19 years old now, and I have seen so many horrible things I will never forget. I hope one day this place gets shut down. Do not send your kids here. They will hate you for it. They will not get better. They will walk out of there too shaken up to be able to communicate how hurt they are mentally. They will hide their symptoms from you. I went back into the closet after going here. The amount of grown adults ready to misgender a 15 year old kid at this facility was crazy. I was just a kid. The staff were supposed to support me. They were supposed to support all of us. I don't hate all of the staff that were there when I was there. Some of them really did try to make the situation less miserable for us, but others were terrible. One of the staff threatened to lock any kid who complained about hating it there in their room for 3 days. It's called regroup. It makes it sound better than what it is. A lot of the things they say are twisted to sound better. It's been almost three years since I got out, but I remember it all like it was yesterday. Sometimes I look at this place on Google maps and today I realized reviews are being deleted. I'm going to leave this here until they delete it.
