I was emotionally neglected and manipulated by staff during my time here. After asking for help because I was having an anxiety attack Ray told me that she 'couldn't deal with' me. I was sent to the hospital and was blamed for 'hurting Rays feelings' the CT on call caused me to have anxiety attacks and did not help whatsoever, but I was still forced to talk to her even if it only make me feel worse. I came out of Maplewood with more trauma to my name than I had when I arrived. I was eventually taken out of the program when me parents realized how toxic the environment was. Terrible place. Please do not send your children there

They drugged me so badly that I went crazy. My CT Nina would threaten me to go to McLaughlin and instead of helping me get through stuff she made me meditate? The kids there are also insufferable. The Psychiatrist would give me beta blockers and all types of antipsychotics when I’m not psychotic. the rooms are nasty and they don’t clean them before putting students in the rooms, There was mold everywhere. Staff also let students self harm without putting them on precautions.

Before i call out the people that need to be fired or even just held accountable for their behavior, id like too call out the people that actually helped and did their best to make things shine when they knew stuff was messed up. And that would be Kate from maple wood. She not only did an amazing job handling hard situations but had very much sympathy for my situation. Now, who in which did not help was Ray from maple wood. Her intentions with me were not only weird but obsessive. I was the kid she favored and let me onto her phone and even taken me to her apartment once or twice. She made unwilling promises like how i would live with her after I discharged. After my time here a year or so, I’ve still had contact with her and I found out I was pregnant.. she had told me that I should give my baby too her. Knowing that I would sympathize because of her telling me in past that she was trying for a baby and trying to surrogate herself. She would also tell me about her sex life and current partners.. she would also be on tinder while at work and sometimes ask my opinion on a person. I went into this facility brainwashed that it was a safe place when really ray was creating more damage to my mental health issues. I don’t suggest bringing your kids here until ray has been handled. I mean look… she literally has 3 bad reviews about her and she is STILL working there as the main staff. I’m sure she’s gonna look at this review and laugh because she knows she got away with what she’s done, not the first time either (she’s read one of her bad reviews out loud to us and laughed claimed the child was the problem)

Please reconsider before taking your children here. I took my daughter here when she was struggling with mental health. This place did more damage than good. They lied on her discharge paperwork when we left to go to a place that actually helped her.

It was an awful place to be it helped with some of my problems but added on twice the amount. That place gave me more trama than going in. It's sad knowing that this is the best place is alaska. Most of the staff were TERRIBLE. Ray would let one of peers go on her phone had no boundaries with this peer and would let her get away with everything. Once this peer left Ray had my peers phone number which is illegal and told us not to tell anyone,so none of of did. I got the cops called on me for unnecessary reasons. The staff member siu would also get into unnecessary arguments with me all the time.There is so much bad things I could tell you about this place but that would be too many words. Everyone who went there would always try to convince their family's to discharge them but gave up within the first week. This place would make us more sneaky and created much more trama for everyone there.

I was part of AK Child & Family from approx 2002-2006. My experience was mostly a positive one. I felt like the staff really cared for me. I felt like they valued my opinion. I felt like they had my best interest in mind. Even though they were getting paid to be there, Activity Therapy was always a lot of fun. I was not use to getting any positive attention from anyone, so it was nice. The only big negative I can remember is when my worker pulled me from school in 9th grade, told me we were going for ice cream or something, then dumped me at Northstar. Actually now that I think of it, all the homes I was in through them but one were awful. I cannot however speak for the quality of the program now.
