Galen Hope

DO NOT GO HERE. Since Galen decided to delete my review, I’m happy to share it again. I’m currently a full time mental health advocate and have been in recovery for 2.5 years now, doing the best I ever have! When I first chose to recover from my eating disorder, I went to Galen Hope. After 6 days, I decided to leave — complete mistreatment of patients, lying to families, a lot of just sitting around doing nothing. It makes me so sad that a place like this exists. Please please try to do better.

I will forever be grateful for the care I received at Galen Hope. Every single member of my team was genuinely and truly invested in my well-being. In the three months I spent in the program, I feel like I made a lot of progress. I know that I'll carry what I learned in the program moving forward in all aspects of my life. Finally, and last but not least, shoutout to my amazing therapist, Dr. Christina Martin, the BEST of the best. From the start she was professional, compassionate, understanding, and non-judgmental. I will never forget the kindness she showed me during a very difficult time in my life.

My experience with Galen Hope is from the family perspective. My family member has chronic trauma, medical conditions and a severe eating disorder - GH was a lifesaver at a time they needed it most. I will forever be indebted to the staff and co-founders of this compassionate and warm place in which someone dear to me could find support and steps toward recovery. GH was just the beginning stage of recovery for my loved one as so much happens after leaving a facility, but the groundwork was invaluable. Thank you Drs. Wendy Oliver-Pyatt and Amy Boyer, and staff!!

If I could give my experience 0 stars I would. It's been a year and half since I left Galen hope and I'm still haunted by nightmares of what some staff members said to me.

I arrived at Galen Hope completely dejected—miserably depressed, actively suicidal, and deeply entrenched in my binge eating disorder. I came in fragile but hopeful, expecting professional care, compassion, and real support. What I experienced instead was invalidating, retraumatizing, and actively harmful to my mental health. With the exception of Eli and Dr. Barbe, who were the rare bright spots, my care team largely compounded the darkness I came in with. I spent much of my 9 months there fighting off the mental damage triggered by the very people who were supposed to help me heal. Their comments, tone, and approach regularly sent me spiraling. Family therapy was a disaster. My therapist (Jackie) was so ineffective and moronic that my mother ultimately refused to keep attending sessions. I eventually had to fire Jackie myself—for the sake of my sanity. That therapeutic relationship did more damage than good, and it has permanently strained the bond between my mother and me. It has been nearly a year since I left Galen, and my mother and I barely speak. Worse still, my primary therapist abruptly quit to start a private practice. In the middle of a deep depressive episode—while I was expressing suicidal ideation—they simply discharged me. That is clinical negligence, plain and simple. And as for the issue I came in with? My binge eating disorder worsened dramatically during my stay. I gained over 50 pounds, pushing me past the 300-pound mark. The physical consequences were immediate and severe: chronic back pain, decreased mobility, and deeper self-loathing than I’ve ever experienced. Not once did anyone seem capable of providing targeted or effective support for this. Let me be clear: I left Galen Hope more depressed, more disordered, and more hopeless than when I entered. Their glossy branding and promises of personalized, trauma-informed care are dangerously misleading. I urge anyone considering this place—especially those struggling with eating disorders or suicidality—to look elsewhere. You deserve a team that actually helps, not one that breaks you further.

My time at Galen hope and the team there saved my life. I didn’t know it at the time, I actually fought it most of the way. Jeanette, Rudy and Cynthia went so above and beyond and held hope for my recovery when I couldn’t see it. They are the reason I’m living a wonderful life today. I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be at Galen hope it’s truly unique and they are uniquely capable of navigating some of the most complex of struggles.

As an eating disorders specialized medical provider, the experience I had with getting a long-term client into Galen Hope was nothing short of exceptional. I have been in the field for 15 years and have never had such a positive experience like this with any other treatment center. The entire team at Galen Hope, including co-founder Wendy Oliver-Pyatt, rallied around my client; advocating on her behalf with the insurance company to ensure she was able to obtain the care she deserves. Since my client was admitted, the ease of collaboration and communication with the Galen Hope treatment providers has been top notch. For my client, she is achieving treatment outcomes never before reached in previous treatment stays at other facilities. Galen Hope has demonstrated to me that they are thoroughly invested in her care as she reaches treatment goals with carefully laid out interventions to support her reentering the community.
