Metropolitan Center for Mental Health is a non profit outpatient behavioral health organization founded in 1962. They provide affordable psychological and psychiatric treatment to support emotional well being without discrimination based on financial status, culture, identity, or diagnoses. Services address mental illness and substance use problems, and include programs for children, adolescents, and adults. Through their Families and Individuals in Recovery program, they serve individuals and family members experiencing alcoholism and other substance use disorders. Pathways to Outpatient and Recovery Services At 1090 Saint Nicholas Avenue, the FAIR or Families and Individuals in Recovery outpatient substance abuse clinic operates with extended weekday hours. The program is licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction and Substance Abuse Services. Treatment includes individualized plans with relapse prevention, individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, education lectures, referrals, and aftercare planning. They also provide medication therapy and psychological testing as part of their outpatient mental health services. Family Engagement and Coordinated Support Care at this location includes family involvement and coordinated services designed to strengthen support systems. The child and adolescent program provides thorough assessment and treatment in English and Spanish, including coordination with schools and other agencies when needed. The Hispanic Family Service offers culturally sensitive services in Spanish and English. Across programs, they offer screening, intake appointments, and referrals to other services to connect individuals and families with appropriate care.
