Water Gap Wellness saved my life. Certainly my mental and emotional well-being, and very probably my physical life. I went there with severe depression and alcoholism, untreated for years if not decades, and within the space of a few months I got myself back. I gained structures and tools to rebuild my life and become a confident, joyful person. I didn't love everything about the facility, and I don't think it's necessarily the perfect fit for everyone, but it was perfect for me. The separation between the treatment center and the lodging (for those who are in-patient) means there is less clinical oversight outside the treatment day, which can be a good or bad thing. It was good for me, because I needed to regain my sense of independence, and the grounds of the Inn are beautiful and soothing. The treatment day is a lot like school, with week-long classes focusing on various things. They throw a lot of different therapeutic styles and techniques at you, and you can choose those that work best for you. You decide with your individual therapist which courses would be most helpful for you. Everyone working there is caring and professional, and even the things that weren't really my style (I am never going to be an art therapy person) gave me insights into myself. Beyond the clinical staff, the techs and everyone who works at the Inn work hard to provide an empathetic environment and interesting activities. It's amazing how much playing bingo and washing dishes can improve your mental health (the latter is part of a job program overseen by the head chef that played a huge role in my recovery. If you're so inclined, I highly recommend it). Above all, I think WGW is most beneficial for those who want to get better. It's a safe, stable environment--staffed by kind and considerate people--even for those who aren't yet capable of making great efforts in that direction, but it isn't the sort of place that forces things on you. The resources, the knowledge, and the people are there, but you have to choose to make use of them...which is, really, the vital first step in changing your life for the better.

WaterGap Wellness failed my family in every way and caused irreversible damage to my wife, our marriage, and our children’s happiness. What was promised as quality mental health and addiction care turned into a nightmare of incompetence, neglect, and what feels like insurance-driven exploitation. From the start, they made big claims about being a top-tier, individualized diagnosis and treatment facility, but they did not provide the support or clinical care they advertised, especially around alcohol abuse treatment. They accepted our “great” insurance, then proceeded to run up more than a million dollars in claims and deductibles while providing poor communication, poor coordination of care, and very little actual progress for the patient. They believed and acted on a false story from a very sick patient without ever reaching out to family or friends to get context or verify anything, despite having every opportunity to do so. Instead, they chose to accept a one-sided narrative and went as far as falsely painting the husband (me) as abusive with zero evidence beyond that story, ultimately cutting me off from updates and involvement in her care entirely, which was devastating for both our marriage and our kids. One of the most alarming events was a severe, life-threatening relapse that occurred while my wife was in their care, involving mismanagement of medications and alcohol on or around their campus. She had to be rushed for emergency hospitalization with a near-death relapse, and the facility did not even call me as her spouse to inform me. After a week-long hospital stay, they welcomed her back—not with a better plan or accountability, but seemingly just to keep billing insurance. For a place that markets itself as holistic, client-first, and family-focused, their actual practices felt the opposite: disorganized, unethical, and financially motivated. Staff and leadership showed little interest in true family involvement, transparency, or accountability, and their decisions contributed directly to the collapse of our family and the worsening of my wife’s condition. In my opinion, this is a sick facility with incompetent leadership, dangerous clinical oversight, and unacceptable financial practices that put revenue over recovery. I will never recommend WaterGap Wellness to anyone who genuinely wants to regain their life, protect their family, or receive ethical care—this place will ruin more lives for insurance money long before it restores any. They will paint this review as a disgruntled, abusive husband but they have never spoken to me or my children or the patient’s family. Ever. Run far away from this facility.

I would also like to say this about Watergap which I find to be true with many mental health places. When I was there every single employee heavily towed the company line that here at Watergap we respect our clients. So to all the staff nothing they ever did or said to us could ever be disrespectful because here at Watergap we respect our clients. That is gaslighting at its purest form and for a mental health institution to have any part of that is unacceptable. It is exactly treatment like that that causes me and other people to have serious mistrust with all further mental health professionals afterwards. Look at their response to my review. I made my feelings very clear to all staff and other clients while under their treatment and care. This review is not the first time of them being aware of my feelings. All the staff at the time I was there were well aware of my feelings on the place. Also all they offered me for leaving a five star review was a dinner so it should be no surprise I decided to leave an honest one instead. Based on my own personal experiences only classifying their medical team as world class is a complete joke. Dr Morrow talked to me for maybe 2 to 3 hours out of the whole 3 months I was there. Put me on medicine that is no longer effective. They fired one of the most well liked therapist then lied to all the patients about it. My therapist who isn't there anymore would regular fill time by watching youtube music videos. It took them way too long for this gross incompetence to be addressed. They planned my after care plans way too late which resulted in being put into a poorly run sober living home Water Gap Lofts. Which apparently has no affiliation to the other facilities even though the same people collecting my rent were the same who collected my insurance papers. Way too comfortable about gas lighting their patients.

This is a horrible and dangerous facility. I was only there for a week, having to leave early because a fellow patient sexually assaulted me and I discovered that he had a history of doing the same to at least 5 other patients before me. Even after my incident he was temporarily removed from the facility and then brought back after I left. During the week that I was there I also witnessed other outrageous and inappropriate behavior and treatment. One night, a patient had a pretty intense breakdown where they became violent and started breaking windows. The staff made all of us other patients go upstairs with no support or supervising for hours. Several of my fellow patients had breakdowns of their own upstairs, feeling triggered by the sound of the breaking windows or lack of supervision. I kept looking for staff members to support us but whenever I found one, they would tell me that they are “busy” or that they “have their hands full.” I understand that emergency situations happen but to have such a lack of protocol that suicidal patients are left unsupervised in a triggering position for hours is negligible and dangerous. After I left, I stayed in touch with some of my fellow patients. Not even two weeks later, one of my fellow patients successfully committed suicide under watergap wellness’s care. Around the same time, covid spread throughout the facility and some patients weren’t informed of the outbreak until they had to be hospitalized from their symptoms. I have no idea how this facility is still up and functioning, please please do not go here.

Water Gap Wellness is wildly unethical, horrendous, and a disgusting excuse for a treatment center. The owners are money hungry and do not have the client's best interest in mind. They are solely focused on what fills their pockets with $$, especially the better the insurance is. They will keep you far longer than ethically sound and to the point where it is no longer beneficial for the client's progress and overall well-being. Oh, and if a client AMA's, don't worry!! They can come back a 19th time because their insurance is just that good!! The structure of the program is a mess and now that the "inn" where client's stay is considered a "private inn" like it always should have been, client's are going back to residential living with zero safety checks, zero medical staff, and zero treatment in general.....meanwhile when they are at the centers they could be on 15 minute or LOS checks!! But once they go back to living at the "private inn" they're entirely on their own. It makes no sense and I do not understand how this place is operating the way it is still. It is only a matter of time before it gets rightfully shut down.

Water Gap Wellness saved my life. I mean that. I came here severely depressed, hopeless, and addicted to substances. I’m leaving here a new man, confident and ready to take on the world. I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough — from the techs, to the kitchen staff, the nurses at centers, my case managers, my individual therapist, and all the group facilitators. A special shout out goes to my case manager, Kate, my individual therapist, Bart, my two favorite and most kind and loving nurses, Rusty and Christina, my doctor, Dr. Gomez, and literally every single tech. The people that work here truly give a damn about their clients and that goes such a long way. I am forever grateful for Water Gap Wellness.
