Eating Recovery Center Northbrook

Reviews for mental health and recovery services usually only point out negatives, as unsatisfied consumers (rightfully so) are louder online than those that have had positive experiences. Personally, the experiences I have had with ERC and the Northbrook center have all been positive and beneficial - for both the referring provider side, and the client side. I would recommend them highly.

Have had multiple clients participate in treatment here, all have had positive experiences, which have impacted their recovery journey in positive ways.

Their staff is compassionate, highly skilled, and deeply committed to patient-centered, evidence-based care. All communications are collaborative; making coordination of care seamless and supports positive outcomes for the individuals we serve. ERC Pathlight is a trusted and valuable resource in our community. I highly recommend their programs to patients and fellow providers.

DONT GO HERE! I got sent here 3 years ago and and I still never forgot my horrible experience. they say they treat all kinds of Eating disorders but they treat everyone like they are anorexic. They wanted to me gain 40 pounds in one month. (I wasn’t malnourished) they would lock you up in bathrooms and wait for you to relapse and if you did you got punished to stay longer. I’ve heard countless crying and screaming on the daily. and not to mention they will force a tube down your throat if you don’t eat everything on your plate. You had little contact with family, they were telling my mom to not believe me, we couldn’t even see out of the windows, girls and guys being rude and competitive to each other And not to mention, when I got home I did not recover. Save yourself or child time and money because this place does nothing.

Disappointed with clinical staff. Disappointed with how my daughter was treated at times. And again came home worse!

I have taken time to reflect and to rewrite my review. I have been to ERC 3 times over the past 3 years. I have dealt with restrictive body image related issues, and was diagnosed with ARFID. But ERC like many ED treatment facilities focuses on conditions with compensatory behaviors. If you struggle with ARFID I personally would not recommend ERC. (A great place is Center for Discovery!) The first time I was at ERC was March of 2022. I was 12 and had been in previous programs prior to ERC. I was weight restored previously. I did PHP at ERC for 3 weeks. My care team was Kelsey, Megan, and Dr. Aldrige. I had no issues with ERC the first time. I then returned in June of 2023. I was now 13. I was originally set up with Lane.. but was switched to Grace. I was a very angry and scared person. Everyone was scary, especially the people trying to help me. I was in PHP for 3 days, and was moved to RTC (residential.) I was not happy about this. I spent about 3.5 weeks in RTC. I was on the younger side and didn't have much peer support (It was 16-18 yr olds (Varies by milieu). After 4 weeks of PHP I was discharged due to lack of progress and willingness. I blamed everyone. I can now reflect and see that I was the most important person to be on board. In late 2023 I began experiencing chronic illness and was diagnosed with POTS, GP, IBS-C, and FC. My ARFID was sent into overdrive. I was admitted to ERC due to being unhealthy and using maladaptive coping skills. I was sent to RTC and was only there for about 2.5 weeks. I actually hated the program so much. Because PathLight was on the other side there was a lot of chaos. I have PTSD from the mental hospital and the stressful and traumatic experiences I lived. This was a huge barrier for me. There was a fight one night that sent me into a panic attack. ERC/Pathlight is SEVERELY understaffed. The Psychiatrist Dr. Hartman was called in to sit with us. There was 6 police cars and 2 ambulances. I called my Mom and begged her to allow me to go to PHP. After about a day I was sent to PHP. Pathlight is very unhinged and with their lack of staff it became a very stressful and tension filled environment. Once I stepped down it was much different. As a person I am more mature (16 now!) and willing. I am so grateful for Grace and Madisyn. They made me feel so seen and understood. Their amount of compassion and care is unmatched. They are very accommodating with my chronic illness and allowed me extra water and salt tabs. I am so grateful for my team there. They truly saved me emotionally. To summarize; I would recommend ERC NB to people struggling with conditions like, Anorexia, Bulimia, OSFED, and Orthorexia. On the other hand ARFID patients I would suggest Center for Discovery! I am currently there and they are very educated and ARFID specialized. They have an ARFID program! I am beyond grateful for Grace, Lane, and Madisyn! Thank you ERC for saving me!

would give 0 if possible, who's idea was it to make kids guess each others weight for exposures? literally told us to body check without bodychecking. made me stand outside of the bathroom so long that I peed my pants. made me drink a supplement in a timed period which made me throw up because I drank 25 ounces so fast.
