Committing to a treatment center of any kind at any time happens at the most challenging times of anyone's life. Expecting that any treatment center be a panacea for all that ails you and your addiction(s) wouldn't be reasonable, especially from the addict's viewpoint.
Hillside is obviously a business that needs to ensure they're meeting their bottom line, so confirming insurance or payment methods only makes sense. But to me, that didn't come across as the priority once I was there.
There has been a lot of thought and effort put in the facility and the program. Addicts/alcoholics are a hard group to please, so any treatment center will be a challenge for someone in recovery. A person sort of gets out what they put into a rehab experience. But what you can expect:
1. A clean facility with great views
2. A super friendly staff who are always willing to take time and listen
3. Some great group sessions that are so educational you can never forget them (Mike)
4. Prepared meals. When you arrive at rehab you haven't been preparing decent meals!
5. Offsite AA and NA meetings in LA
6. Offsite activities. I went hiking, hollywood tour
7. A solid medical detox with time to rest
8. As much or as little comradare as you want with other people going through similar life challenges
9. An alumni group that meets online (I forgot to get the sign in)
As I said, there probably isn't a perfect facility for us in recovery, and I have no intention of needing to shop around again, but if I have a friend or loved one who needed one I'd tell them to see if they can check in to Hillside and get better. Best use of my (Blue Cross) money I've spent in a while.
Special thanks to all the support staff - Alex, Corey, Nacobe (I'm going for a walk), Anthony, Lowry, Alex, Jade, Jennifer, Kennedy, Justin, Linda, Chef Joe, Suzanne, Melody and doctors McVay and Whitfield
