One thing that is very important in recovery is to take it slow and trust the process. After doing an inpatient program it was strongly suggested to have my next step to be sober living. Transcend came highly recommended by the program director at the facility that I had been receiving treatment. Upon visiting once I knew I had found my place. The house itself is massive with all the rooms equipped with very comfortable queen size beds. Even if you have to share your room with roommates the rooms are so spacious you wont be on top of each other and will be more than comfortable. The house also has great common areas including a game room with ping pong and billiards, a living room with a large couch which is great for hanging out with your housemates, and a big back yard with a pool and even a golf net! The house even allows dogs! Food is taken care of with the house receiving 5 dinners a week and getting take out on the weekends. The house also gets groceries and you can ask for anything and they will stock it for you. These things are very important when you're getting back to the real world. Anything that can be taken off your plate is a huge help and Transcend at a minimum will make sure you're fed and be comfortable. Other than that Transcend leaves it up to the individual it terms of what they want their recovery to look like. The house does require you to attend five meetings a week but what that looks like is really up to you. If you go to church that counts as a meeting. If you volunteer that can count as a meeting etc. They also provide three meetings a week at either the men's or women's house so between that and the huge recovery community within the city of Houston it is not a hard requirement to meet. Transcend is also located in the coolest neighborhood in the city with tons of walking trails that can get you to scores of great restaurants and places of interest. The staff at Transcend is absolutely fantastic. These are men who for the most part are all in recovery and so they "get it." I actually found the staff to be the best part of my 5 month stay. I consider them great friends and people who actually care about how their residents are doing. The number of meaningful conversations, and equally important lighthearted ones, was countless. They really get to know you and they'll pick you up if you're struggling and straighten you out if you are out of line. Accountability is important and between the house staff and your fellow residents you are in a good environment that will set you up for success.
Transcend is a beautiful home that has helped many women start their recovery journeys with substance abuse or mental health. The high accountability and 24hour staff is a huge plus when considering their program.
Lived there for over 1 year .. best place ever, highly recommended!
Transcend was (hopefully) my final step on a really lon journey and I couldn't be more grateful. Just celebrated a year. Thanks to people like Beckie, Debbie, and Arrelia my life will never be the same! LOVE YOU TRANSCEND
Transcend and their team truly saved my sister’s life. They worked closely with her to help her get back to work and build a strong sober community. They took the time to get to know her and her needs which made all the difference.
The staff at Transcend was so polite and personable. They helped me to understand their program and how it could support my nephew when we were at a lost to find resources for him. I would recommend their program to anyone in search of help but at a loss of where to start or how to help a loved one.
The atmosphere of the program was always so welcoming and supportive. My friend entered the program at one of the lowest points in her life and was met with compassion and an enthusiastic response about early sobriety. I would 100% recommend this program to people struggling with substance abuse and getting their recovery started.
My sister went to the women's Oxford house in Houston and had an amazing experience. She was assisted with finding work and made many friends that she is still in contact with today. They even encouraged and supported her in getting back into college to finish the few classes she had remaining to get her degree.
