South Shores Recovery

Update: I’m 97 days sober. I spent 70ish days at South Shores and came home with a full relapse prevention plan. I’m involved in an online outpatient program, I’m in therapy and I regularly attend meetings. I am in a group chat with my peers and I’m thriving in my recovery. Life is not perfect but I feel so amazing. I could not imagine doing this well in any other program. Best recovery experience ever! This is my second time in rehab and South Shores really works on your mind, body and soul. I am 18 days sober. I feel amazing! Detox was great and I came off the detox meds early. The staff is nothing short of amazing. They support you and your recovery every step of the way. The food might be my only complaint. I love the variety of meetings. I’m an alcoholic but not everyone here is an alcoholic so we went to other meetings so that everyone could experience something specific for their addiction. I love this place.

Get ready folks, because this is going to be a novel. I have that many good things to say. This is my one and only time in a treatment center. South Shores Recovery is a blessed, incredible experience from start to finish. They coordinate everything from your arrival to your exit, checking on you every step of the way. From the moment you arrive you are met with care and compassion. They do everything they can to make you comfortable and feel safe as you detox and in your surroundings, that includes when you move to another house after you get settled from your week of detox. The staff from in-take to techs to case managers and therapist genuinely care and take care of you at every turn. It felt more like friends than staff and guest- a quick shout out to all those that I got the pleasure to meet. They are truly wonderful and so very appreciated. They keep you fed and full of snacks as you ride the road of recovery while also keeping you busy with group during the week and nightly meetings ranging from AA, CA (Cocaine Anonymous)to NA (Narcotics Anonymous). The weekly group sessions are different every day and include things like yoga, sound therapy, meditation, harp, trips to the gym and outdoor activities like surfing. Saturdays have a fun activity like kayaking, bowling or going to the movies. While Sundays involve a weekly trip to Target and the option of going to church in the morning. This keeps the entire experience beneficial to the mind, body and soul. This recovery center is not just for alcoholics but for any addict that makes the brave decision to get better and work toward the life they deserve. This was the best decision I have ever made, aside from marrying my husband. If you are apprehensive or concerned about taking this first step, please take my advice and consider... this can't hurt, it can only help and that is exactly what the amazing humans at South Shores Recovery strive and are meant to do.

I cannot begin to express the depth of my gratitude for this place and the incredible staff who make it what it is. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with open arms and immediately made to feel safe, comfortable, and understood. The staff are not only knowledgeable, but also genuinely compassionate—always willing to listen, laugh with you, and stand by your side during the times you need support the most. The groups are thoughtfully designed and different every single day, which keeps you fully engaged and allows you to explore so many meaningful areas of life. Discussions cover everything from addiction, mental health, and spirituality, to family, relationships, and childhood experiences. Each topic is approached with honesty, care, and encouragement, creating an environment where healing and growth feel possible. This is far more than just a program—it’s a community, a safe haven, and a place where you can rediscover yourself while being supported every step of the way. I could not recommend it highly enough to anyone seeking real change and genuine connection.

I’ve seen a couple of other comments about Christina. She has zero conflict resolution skills. She should not be involved with interpersonal situations, she just makes them worse and allows everyone to gang up on you and have a free-for-all. She is unable to remain impartial, both in her tone and her face. Watch out for her. I was being bullied by two older women that cussed me out and used things said in group against me and were saying everything they could to try to make me feel worthless all because they thought I ate their spaghetti, with several witnesses around. The solution was to have ME transferred out when they broke their “zero tolerance rules”, violated my “rights as a client”, and did not keep the “expectations” all layed out in the handbook. I told them how stigmatizing and damaging it would be for my recovery to feel punished for this and they didn’t care or try to offer me any exit therapy/debriefing when I said I wanted to be discharged instead of transferred. If you have the tendency of being hated on, this may not the right place for you. they would think that you are too much trouble and want to get rid of you, and the GASLIGHTING you will face is unbelievable.They don’t see you as a patient, they see you as a “client” so you’re going to get treated as such... Disposable

I went to South Shores to help overcome my alcohol addiction, it was my first time going to a treatment center. The houses were clean, cozy and safe and all the staff were great in helping with my recovery. I just celebrated my 90days of being sober. I am so thankful for South Shores helping me find new better ways to cope with my stress and anxiety as well as introducing me to AA by taking me to nightly meetings, this is a habit I have continued since I left South Shores. I am beyond grateful.

The club no one wants to belong to is waiting for you. Let’s be honest: Nobody wakes up thinking it’s a good day to stop their addiction and go to rehabilitation. The fear of losing my old way of living (which wasn't productive or making me happy) kept me looking through the distorted lens of the bottle. I thought other people needed rehabilitation, but South Shore completely transformed my life in ways I never even dared to imagine. The journey began reluctantly, much like the late Amy Winehouse's famous song "Rehab." The thought of going to rehab felt like a last resort, and the stigma around it was daunting. But addiction doesn’t discriminate, affecting people from every walk of life, including successful writers with master's degrees, licenses in medical sciences, and television fitness personalities like myself. When I arrived, South Shore's safe and serene environment provided the perfect backdrop for healing. The 24/7 medical support was a lifeline during detox, ensuring that I was comfortable and safe as I began to purge the toxins from my body. The detox process was supervised by compassionate professionals who made it as smooth as possible. South Shore's approach is holistic, focusing on mind, body, and spirit. The Big Book of AA, which I previously scoffed at, now serves as the cornerstone of my recovery. Through various therapies, including yoga, meditation, and surfing, I found new ways to connect with myself and the world around me. The sessions at the beach were particularly transformative, allowing me to heal in the midst of inspiring natural beauty. My only critique is that due to varying physical capabilities among participants, some of the best hikes and views from atop the cliffs were not attainable due to strenuous challenges. However, this experience taught me tolerance and acceptance. Education is a cornerstone of the program. I learned so much about the nature of addiction, why I drank, and most importantly, how to stay sober. The individualized treatment plans were tailored to my unique needs and adapted as I progressed. This personalized care was crucial in addressing the underlying issues that fueled my addiction. One of the most surprising joys was discovering a supportive community. In group therapy and 12-Step meetings, I found my tribe. The camaraderie and understanding among fellow participants were invaluable. The program's emphasis on community and peer support continues to be a cornerstone of my recovery. During my stay, I learned to achieve and maintain abstinence from substances, develop strategies to manage cravings and triggers, practice healthy coping skills, build a support network of peers, mentors, or sponsors, and engage in therapy to address the underlying issues contributing to substance use. Recovery is not just about abstaining from substances; it’s about discovering a new way of life. South Shore gave me the tools to cope with cravings and prevent relapse. The skills and strategies I developed during my stay have been essential in maintaining my sobriety. The support doesn’t end when you leave. South Shore's continuing care and alumni programs ensure that you remain connected and supported long after you’ve left the facility. The lifelong membership in the South Shore community means that help is always available when needed. Choosing rehab was the best decision I ever made. South Shore not only helped me break free from the chains of addiction but also gave me a fresh perspective and a renewed outlook on life. If you’re struggling with addiction, take that first step.
