YSS Iowa Homeless Youth Center

Called to inquire about protocol (12:30 pm friday). Rude man answered and cut me off as i was trying to communicate and ask questions so that i can understand protocol. I was asking if they accept walk ins or what and he was like, “Calm down, you can come.” First of all, i was calm. Trying to communicate with another human being is not wrong. Is everyone a sociopath these days????

This place literally saved me from being street homeless. They offer three hot meals a day, plus a 2 p.m. snack they have people from the local churches come in and serve food and pray with people. They serve men and women. They have a clothing closet, a food pantry, and they offer free gloves and stocking hats. They even offer good shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, toothpaste, and the most important thing to homeless people: fresh socks and underwear. If you're down on your luck and need a safe place to lay your head at night, CISS is the place.

I left a beautiful apartment, because I couldn't find my daughter. She was staying at the CISS. Because of Brittany abuse towards me I felt safer staying at the shelter. They was able to see how she treated me...they were ALWAYS there for me, giving me positive advice. Because of the CISS Shelter I am now staying in my own beautiful apartment. I am very grateful. I am very safe here, have lots of support ❤️ thank you, CISS. For everything you have done. And Thank You Elsie Mannor.

Suggest going elsewhere as soon as you can because the staff can be ornery which happens almost everyday! It is a shame the city doesn't inspect as there are multiple problems. They failed to help me because the social workers are too slow and you are automatically kicked out in 90 days even though you need medical attention. There were almost no doors on the bathroom stalls and half the showers didn't work. Almost no hot water. The bathrooms were filthy! Since, I am on a special diet because of a health condition, sometimes there wasn't anything to eat and only one guy helped who wasn't there all the time. No, I do not call places like this because I have heard more than enough lies. Go to Bethal or any other place if you possibly can! This place is a dump!

Noticed the people commenting about locations. THEY should not just comment.., but Give the individuals bout $50+ each.., Or No Comment!!!

When I was there I was basically forgotten and the only time the remember me is when they threatened to throw me out. I hope the iowa department of health and human services shuts this place down.
