SunCloud creates a safe environment where I felt I could be completely authentic and supported, and they offer a nice alumni program. The daily Process group is something I wish everyone could have in their lives each day

As a mental health professional, I was highly impressed with SunCloud Health’s treatment program for eating disorders and substance use disorders (individual and co-occurring). The clinical model is thoughtful, evidence-based, and clearly delivered by a multidisciplinary team that communicates well and prioritizes individualized care. The medical team has a vast knowledge of eating disorders and substance use disorders. During our visit, it was evident that SunCloud emphasizes both clinical excellence and compassionate engagement. The environment is well-structured, supportive, and conducive to meaningful therapeutic work. Staff demonstrated strong expertise, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the complexities of co-occurring disorders. All staff we came in contact with were kind, caring and compassionate. SunCloud Health stands out as a high-quality treatment option, and I would feel confident referring clients who need comprehensive and well-coordinated care.

I attended Suncloud residential mainly for binge eating disorder. It was good other than the things I am about to address. First, if you have binge eating disorder, yes it will help with forcing a normal sleeping and eating schedule to prevent binging and get your body’s clock back on schedule. BUT this program is heavily catered towards anorexic and bulimic people and pushes binge eaters to the side which is very ignorant. We’re all paying the same money to be there why treat anyone’s issues like they’re less serious than the next..? I felt like almost every time I shared about how my binging has affected me or how it’s made me gain weight I was shut down and told to reframe so that I didn’t trigger the anorexic and bulimic people into relapsing. To be honest the way they baby those two groups of people stunts their recovery bc most of them are grown adults throwing fits and crying even at the mention of food health or weight. Me and a couple other people constantly had to walk on eggshells when just speaking our truth. In the real world people talk about these harsh realities and it does nothing but infantilize these people to make everyone watch what they say around them. Second, for the first 2-3 weeks I was there they tossed me around to different substitute therapists bc mine was on vacation so for most of my stay there I wasn’t even getting therapy because I had to reexplain my story every therapy session and by the time I was done the session would be over. Then I would see a different therapist and have to start all over. Which was absolutely infuriating, they should’ve assigned me a therapist who was THERE when I got there… maybe? Just me? Then when my therapist did get back he proceeded to not meet with me for several days while simultaneously meeting with people who had just got there. I had to threaten to leave the program just to have my first session with my therapist 3 weeks in and once I threatened that all the sudden he pulled me for a session like 30 minutes later. Third, I am Lactose and gluten intolerant and eating those 2 things gives me severe stomach pains headaches acne breakouts and bloating and it took them like 2 weeks to actually believe me. I had to get super demanding and on the edge of tears for them to take it seriously. They gave me so much pushback assuming I was just trying to restrict which was very ignorant because I was admitted for binging not anorexia. If you are gluten free or dairy free be prepared to eat the same flavorless frozen Amy’s meals over and over while everyone else eats fresh cooked meals. Even if I wasn’t intolerant, gluten and dairy are not essential ingredients for survival and if someone chooses to not eat them whether it’s because of an intolerance or health reasons, it’s weird to me to challenge that. They act so progressive but apparently they’re not up to date with the fact gluten and dairy does severe damage to your body when you’re intolerant. They have this whole fake woke message that there’s no such thing as unhealthy food and on the surface it seems like that would help purgers and restricters but I do not believe it does and who it DEFINITELY does not help is the bingers. All in all if all you need is to be forced onto a normal eating and sleeping schedule then this program is good but if you want to dive deep into the root of these issues I do not recommend.

I started a really long story and after getting way too far into it I thought it was too much, so I started over and wrote this: I happened upon SunCloud residential(res) via addiction and an ICU. I had absolutely no experience with mental health or recovery, but being placed there was one of the luckier coincidences in my life. Tons of experience as a career alcoholic though. The staff was/is extremely welcoming and supportive from the moment you set foot in their facility. Though they were not providing services for my family they were supportive of them, what they must have been going through and determined to make them feel secure that they were placing me in good hands. I playfully describe the facility as a giant, structured playpen for adults with 24 hour support for addiction and many other mental health issues. There is a strict schedule, but not only was I reminded frequently that someone was available for an issues 24 hours a day, but for other patients they proved it. I thankfully didn't have a freakout after the recommended bedtime. At times the schedule and rules did feel a bit oppressive, bordering on absurd, but one of the warm and friendly staff was always available to patiently explain the process and how it would assist with recovery. OF COURSE they were right and it was very much needed. Some control needed to be conceded to allow myself and other patients to concentrate on healing and recovery only. Also, some of the resistance was based in narcissism and as an adult not knowing how to handle rules being imposed on me. (playpen referral) I was eased into the program, only at a rate I could handle, with a group of patient, seasoned and attentive therapists and assistants on hand at all times. They were very understanding that I was completely frightened and lost. We addressed our individual problem as were trained to better understand our issues, while also being provided tools to assist us in life while in the program and more importantly after we have left. Portions were much like attending class where we were given concepts and ideas that were built upon each time we met in groups. The concepts and ideas were reinforced and explored with non-class structured activities and also in general interactions with staff and patients. We were exposed to different forms of therapy to determine what could be best used for healing and in my case recovery as well. I never admitted to art therapist Ellen while I was in residence, but I found art therapy particularly helpful and grounding. I never outwardly freaked out, but it helped calm the rough waters under the surface. The physical environment is one of comfort, from colors to artwork to the furniture it was designed to feel like a safe space (there were very few sharp corners to speak of). Cleaned and orgainzed regularly.Tons of blankets and pillows were always available except in the main dining area and the kitchen. With minimal policing even conversation was meant to be a safe space in that environment. This is a very silly thing to bring up, but Victor made sure the food was good enough to develope a problem that would bring you into the program! Snack time and meals were also on a very structured schedule. (again playpen reference, but even that was needed) I am not a special case, but if I were to receive PHP and then IOP without residential first I likely would have relapsed and died or relapsed and ended in residential anyway. If I had done none of the 3 I would certainly have perished. Residential provided me the foundation so that PHP and then IOP were not wasted. I listened to my concerned family, they told me to trust the people and the program. They also told me to jump in with all my might, hold back nothing, give everything so I can make the most of the program. The staff reinforced what my family told me before going in, both were SO right and I was rewarded for it. We are asked not to give advice for reasons they explained, but I will make exception here. If you need this program jump in with everything!

My dad recently completed treatment at SunClouds residential program, and I cannot say enough about the care he received. From the beginning, the staff made our entire family feel supported and involved in the process. Not only did they support my dad in building healthier coping skills and addressing his struggles, but they also included our family in the process. We always felt informed, supported, and encouraged. The environment was safe, healing, and structured in a way that allowed him to make real progress. I am so grateful to SunCloud for helping my dad find hope again and for giving our family the gift of seeing him thrive. I would recommend this program to anyone looking for a place that truly cares and makes a difference.

We could see the positive changes in our loved one week after week, and we also noticed the way SunCloud Health helped us feel included and empowered to support recovery at home. Today, our child is healthier, more hopeful, and equipped with tools that will last a lifetime. We are so grateful to the incredible team at SunCloud Health for giving our family peace of mind and our child a brighter future. If you are a parent looking for a place that will truly care for your loved one, I cannot recommend this program enough.
