Before I came to treatment at New Found Life, I was in one of the darkest parts of my life. I had lost two people very close to me, and my drinking was out of control. I had more hospital, and jail stays than I care to admit. My sister and grandmother searched all around California for a place for me to recover not just my sobriety, but my life. Through a member AA named Joe, I was introduced to Ed and Mary Anne Spatola over the phone. Little did I know that phone call would completely change my life. When I came to Long Beach I had nothing and nowhere to go. They gave me a safe place and access to resources I never thought possible. Through their treatment program with a focus on the twelve steps and on-site psychologists along with their treatment team, I was able to really work on myself, which is where the real work began. Through their regimented program and a willingness to change I came back to feeling like the person I knew I always was. I spent just over two years at NFL and its aftercare programs such as outpatient treatment and their sober living which gave me the best shot at my transition to life on my own. My life now is quite amazing, and it has taking me to places I never thought possible 3 years ago. There are many treatments centers around the country, but this is the one that saved my life. I will never forget what Ed and Mary Anne Spatola, Jeremy Frank, and the whole NFL treatment team did for me, I will be forever grateful. I came to New Found Life broken, lost, and unsure if recovery was even possible for me. But from day one, they treated me with compassion, dignity, and unwavering support. The structure, accountability, clinical care, and community were exactly what I needed to begin healing — mentally, physically, and spiritually. Thanks to New Found Life, my sobriety date is February 20, 2013, and I’ve been living a life beyond anything I imagined. Over a decade later, I still carry the lessons, tools, and gratitude that were instilled in me there. This place is more than a treatment center — it’s where I found hope, purpose, and a second chance. I would have nothing in life without New Found Life. That includes my family, current career, and mental well being. If you’re struggling, I can say without hesitation, and I repeat without hesitation: New Found Life truly saves lives. They saved mine, they saved my wife’s, and they can save yours or your family members.

I am going to explain my experience in a general outline. Minus dates and times because I am not here to convince anyone of anything, but it does need to be shared just how awful the experience I had ended up becoming. Believe me or don't ,is not my business, but the facts are here. I was admitted roughly a year and a half ago. I was instructed to do a 5 day detox at a medical facility which I completed and then moved into the New Found Life house. (NFL) I was there for a total of 30 days. During this time the experience was mostly uneventful. Without any terrible experience. A short "Black Out Period" followed by the standard groups, meetings, therapy and so on. Nothing abnormal, relatively positive in experience. But the problems came at around the 25 day mark. I expressed that I was aiming to go to a sober living home, following the completion of my 30 day commitment. The owner, a man that you see hardly ever through out the time there, kept diverting me away from the idea of leaving at my 30 completion and was pushing me harder and harder as the final day was approaching, towards a "sister company" he was close with for further treatment. I was limited in my ability to make calls to my family. I later found out that my wishes and plans were being brushed off as "irresponsible" to my family. No one would answer my questions as I inquired about my plan. I, with the help of my sponsor and a facility already established had worked out for me to leave safely to the sober living immediately following my successful completion of a my 30 day program. This was disregarded and shunned by the owner. The day of the decision I calmly and kindly diverted away from this sister facility that he set me up to go to. Then EVERYTHING changed. The owner became angry. He wouldn't let me have my phone. He called and aggressively addressed my sponsor, explaining to him his disregard for my "well-being" and threatening him. Saying he can no longer sponsor men from his program. He made me wait hours , before aggressively saying that if I were leave this way, without doing as he said, I would not be an "alumni" nor could I attend any future functions by NFL. I was escorted past the men I had been living with for the past month through a back door and not allowed to speak to or say bye to. I was left with all of my belonging in the alleyway to wait for my sponsor to pick me up. In an act of apparent retaliation I was refused ALL of my psychiatric medications, even the ones I had came with. I live in Bakersfield, Ca, might I add. I had no where to go and knew absolutely no one. Without my sponsor I would have had to hope my mom would come get me? This was an AWFUL and traumatizing experience. This is 100 percent accurate and truthful. I hope that anyone considering this establishment please please consider that if what I am saying IS true, should I send someone I love to or go myself to this place? I just ask you to consider what I went through. Thank you.

Facility claims “ family owned program so you are treated like family”. That is the PROBLEM. Family that owns facility is toxic , dysfunctional and spiritually untreated in my opinion based on my experience with the spatola and frank families. . One’s in need of help… plus, paying a premium for help DESERVE BETTER. Facility has NO defense for their chosen conduct, period. Based on my experience it is my opinion nfl is an unholy, demonic and dangerous facility. I would advise others in need of help to look elsewhere. Protect yourself and your family… you deserve MUCH MORE than nfl is WILLING to provide. Praying for ALL that has been traumatizes and dehumanized by the nfl demonic cult. My opinion based on the spatola and frank families chosen conduct.

Hello to all that are consitering an addiction rehab. I am a longtime recovering addict that went through New Found Life. I'm 27 years sober and have no plans to relaps. I owe my continued succses on what i was taught at this facilliity. Here i learned how to stay sober by doing what it takes, hands on approch taught by the staff. Calling for rides to meetings from people I would meet at AA meetings. Getting a sponser while in treatment was also a requirment that was very helpful.This is a beatiful house on the beach, but it is not a resort. If you are serious about wanting and staying sober and having a better life then this is the place for you. I thank god everyday that New Found Life was there for me.

Saved my life. Plain and simple. Eight years sober and owe everyday to them.

New Found Life does for you exactly what the name says…gives you a new found life. As long as you are willing. They introduce you to the AA community, give you all the tools you need to not only stay sober but to live a better life. I am forever grateful for the staff there and the guys in the house that I met. Made some good friends there and through the meetings they have you attending. I really appreciate everyone there!

This place saved my life! Walked in on 07/12/2020 and wish I never had to leave. I do not have any other treatment center experience, but NFL makes sure you are more than a patient. They become family!
