Asheville Recovery Center

Apologies. I am a little late reviewing my treatment at Asheville Recovery Center. My name is Will and nine years ago I surrendered my addiction to alcohol. I entered ARC on Thanksgiving Day 2017. From the first step in the door I was greeted by staff and other clients, my peers, who made me feel right at home as we were served a huge meal. I hid in my room, only attending required clinical for a couple of days, but when I let my guard down, I knew this was THE PLACE FOR ME! The wisdom I learned from my therapist there, the Techs who spent the most time with us, and the owners who were hands on involved with every client's treatment plan, has allowed me to remain sober, without a slip or mishap, and live my life to the fullest in long-term recovery! I was taught Cognitive Behavioral Therapy where I applied the principles to my situation. In my 41 days of treatment I built social skills cooking and playing games with my peers, but it got real serious when we had group meetings where we opened up to strangers and was critiqued and loved for it. With all of our collective damage, the techs and counselors were committed to us. My insurance ran out after my second week there and I thought oh no I will be booted from the program. The owners and clinicians placed enough confidence in me and awarded me a scholarship for as long as it took. My experience at ARC was life altering for me both good and bad. Along with my clean time, my health improved with no apparent long-term liver or brain damage. I also aspired to help those still in active use of substances. I volunteered first. Then I returned to ARC as a tech. I studied and reached my Certified Peer Suppot Specialist role. At 46 years old I went to college and just earned my BA in Psychology with a Concentration in Addictions. Now I am also a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (intern). History can be cruel dealing with COVID, and the last six years where so many of my original peers lost their way. It is heartbreaking. One of the tenants of supporting someone in treatment is to know your boundaries. You cannot have a friendship or relationship with any client you supervise. That could lead to biindness with the counselor not recognizing queues from the client where they are weak or having a relapse. But that can't be happening because the tainted relationship is personal so you could think "he can't be using. I would know the signs." Wrong! With the position I now hold as a counselor, ARC has taught me better skills in coping when a client relapses one too many times and dies. Those skills passed from counselors to me has enabled me to cope better when I have heard someone didn't make it. I know this review is long and please don't think it's intended to be all about me. No. I would not be living today if I had not embraced true change only ARC taught me. Please, if you or anyone else is struggling call them. They save lives and ask for nothing in return but to pass along your truthful experiences so someone else can make possibly the biggest decision of their lives.

This is a great facility - it’s a treatment center that offers real, effective addiction therapy, and the group sessions are excellent.

This is one of the best treatment centers out there. The therapy is great, and the staff truly cares. They also provided great family help, keeping loved ones involved and supported throughout the process. Highly recommend to anyone seeking real, lasting recovery.

Asheville Recovery Center has been an absolute fantastic experience! I have tried multiple times (on my own) to halt my alcoholism to no avail. Upon my latest return to use, I checked myself in to rehab here and now I feel as though I have a new lease on life! From Hollan with admissions to every single therapist, case worker, and technician, EVERYBODY cared and every one was willing to stop what they were doing to make sure each client was cared for. The group exercises and daily therapy meetings have provided so much information for me to be able to see where I am flawed and gave me the tools and literature to correct these behaviors or at least cope with them to the best of my ability. Two thumbs up in all directions here!
