Our family’s experience with LaHa left a lasting impression on me. My son first went there at a time when he wasn’t ready to embrace recovery and after that, he spent time at many other treatment centers. When he finally reached the point where he was ready to get better La Hacienda was the place he wanted to go. That spoke volumes to me. Out of everywhere he had been, La Hacienda was the place where he felt the most comfortable and cared for. It was a place that made him believe that recovery was possible. As a mother, I understood very little about addiction so I attended 4 different family programs at his various treatment centers and the one at LaHa was by far the best. When my son returned to LaHa he specifically asked his dad to attend the family session. It was here that he finally understood addiction as a disease and was given the perspective he needed to not only support our son’s recovery but his own through attending our local Alanon. We highly recommend La Hacienda.

Please, if you or a loved one are truly ready to change your whole world for the better then strongly consider La Hacienda. I tried everything for years to quit drinking and become a better man for my family and friends. LaHa showed me why I needed to do it for myself first. In 30 days they completely changes my mindset, toxic habits, and restored my faith in my higher power. May 1, 2026 is one year sober for me out of the last 22 years. My wife and kids love me more than ever amd most importantly I love who I am becoming one day at a time.

Chose La Ha because their sales rep was the only person I called who didn't tell me his life story. I was a card-carrying drunk who wanted to sober up. Went twice in 1997, winter & summer. Fell in love with the place, my fellow addicts, my roommates, and the few counselors who listened to us. We had our routines. Feels like we recited The Serenity Prayer about 15 times a day. At night people pulled up chairs next to our room and we talked, blowing off steam and laughing. It was nice to be the cool girls we never were in school. Everybody talked about things counselors didn't address, or stuff we just didn't want them to know. And we smoked~GOD, how we smoked. A few guys brought guitars and sang. Night was my favorite time of day. CAVEATS: 1. The food stinks. If you don't eat meat, you won't eat very much. 2.The pharmacy will give you meds you never heard of before. Too many, often contraindicated with each other. DO NOT take them unless YOUR doc prescribed them. I pretended to take them and pocketed them to throw away. 3.Our shrink was an idiot. All he ever did was hand me a piece of paper after 15 minutes and say, "Make a list." Never made one because he never asked for it back, or specified what he wanted. Every. Single. Week. 4. One of the girls next door to our room worked as a nurse with the physician in a Dallas hospital, and had dirt on him that made us laugh so hard we almost cried. Among other things, he was an ex-con who did time for operating while intoxicated. She was scrubbing and saw him being escorted out in handcuffs by two armed policemen. >Well, things have likely changed now, as that was nearly 30 years ago. We didn't have cell phones, radios, or TV (except in the rec room), so it was pretty quiet. We actually TALKED to each other. I made friends quickly. I cried during my first intake, cried when someone was beaded (farewell ceremony), and cried when I left. As a retread, returning was like coming home. Everybody hugged me, happy to see me. That second time, I wasn't at ALL ready when I had to go. Which brings me to: CAVEAT 5. DO NOT let them convince you to go straight to "aftercare." I made that mistake after being cornered by my counselors. Barely escaped that corrupt place with my life after 5 days. I fell right off the wagon, I was so traumatized. >Keep these things in mind (see, I made a LIST!), and you should emerge from La Ha just fine, with tears in your eyes, beads, and a Big Book full of signatures, addresses and phone numbers, just like high school. Good luck. Stay clean.

They claim they can deal with patients that have mental illnesses but they cannot, I was sent from here to a mental institution at a very difficult time in my life and was told I would be brought back after 72 hours. Well after my stay in the hospital they told me sorry we can't help you and recommend an out of state rehab that costs double digit thousands (with insurance). I'm now sober 4 years completely on my own, no higher power, no meetings, no medications, no therapy or psychologist. It's a money grab were they force bogus 12 step ideology (that has no scientific backing) on you. Oh and it costs about 30,000 dollars a month. If you look at recovery rates between those who attend meetings and go to rehab vs those who seek no treatment (self will) they are the same around 5-7% being successful.They lied to me about being able to come back that's what pisses me off the most. They tried to get me to go live in a sober living facility when I first arrived. I told them I have an active lease. Their response? "So what just break it". How would that have benefited me? The accumulation of unpayable debt and the possibility of not getting another apartment if I were to get kicked out of "Sober Living"? It's all one big BS money grab I'm sure they would have "recommended" a particular sober living. The idea that you need to follow the twelve steps and join a cult is wrong. All the people involved in AA/NA have been brainwashed to believe in a different perception of reality no different than religion. After getting kicked out I attended AA meetings and decided it wasn't for me. They couldn't answer the hard questions, they tried to force their ideology on me, but I refused to believe in a higher power because I'm an Atheist. I believe the cause of my episode that led to me being sent to the psych ward was due to the fact that they took me off all my other meds and replaced them with different medications upon arrival. At the psych ward the psychiatrist informed me LaHa had me on 4 different antipsychotics and that no doctor in their right mind would prescribe that many different antipsychotics at once. I disliked that I was expected to do social things while there. I'm naturally an introvert and have no friends nor do I care to have a relationship of any kind with other humans outside of work where I have to in order to make a living. I guess if your weak minded and believe you have no self will and you have a disease (which is BS) then maybe this place if for you, it DOES work for many people if your willing to allow yourself to be brainwashed. I believe the whole foundation of addiction and recovery needs a reworking backed by SCIENCE. The food at LaHa was good I'll give them that. That's about the only positive thing I have to say about it...

My son had a mental health emergency in May. Although he didn’t go to La Hacienda Brittany was Amazing in guiding us through such a difficult time! By God’s grace and Britanny’s help my son is doing so much better. I highly recommend starting here if you don’t know what to do with a family member or friend going though mental or substance abuse issues.
