Some primary care providers offer mental health diagnosis and treatment. This can prevent patients from developing more serious conditions.
Substance use and mental health can occur simultaneously as co-occurring disorders. Treatment for co-occurring disorders involves therapy and other personalized interventions to address both conditions.

It's really ridiculous to call 4 days in a row, and to wait 20 plus minutes everyday, and all to no avail. Not a single person picked up the phone. You cannot tell me that all those people behind the counter are busy. I've never gone in there, and seen everyone completely busy and unable to answer a phone. Such garage. If they suck at their job, fire them. Hire people who give a damn.
Very helpful and very good care
I made an appointment over a month ago. My "Dr" decides to call out on my appointment day and now I have to wait another month to be seen. Do better VA. Treat your veterans better than this.
Always have complications getting an appointment with Va Physicians constantly have to change providers to get the care that I need a nurse always calls you can never make an appointment to see the doctor they tell you to go somewhere else always this is the worse clinic in the world they never answer the phone also I walked in the on March 20th 2025 after being on a call for them to pick up the phone the MSA were on their phones looking at pictures how horrible is this they need new staff at this clinic they don’t give a dam about VETERANS
They lost my husband's test results for the second time called to tell us that he has to get his tests done AGAIN for the 3rd time because they are irresponsible. How does this place still run? It's like they do not care about him at this point or anyone for this matter the way the ladys treat these men when i walk in here with my husband is wrong. Physically or mentally. He has given up on going for therapy due to the doctors here forgetting about his appointments SEVERAL times. They forget everything to where your loved one can't get taken care of properly this place really needs help or new management asap before another life is on their hands!!!!!
I have nothing but love for the VA healthcare and this clinic. My doctor, Sylvia Amakwe, found nutritional deficiencies (B12, D and potassium) and put me on supplements, and this has improved my life dramatically. She is kind and thorough and I think she’s great. She referred me for ENT as I had buildup in my ears and they scheduled that at this clinic for yesterday and took care of it expeditiously. Word to anyone using VA healthcare though. DO NOT miss your appointments. If you have to miss, CALL THEM and let them schedule someone else in your spot. Be 15 minutes early. They are fast and efficient and expect patients to not waste their time. Think of how it was in the military, that is the way VA healthcare is. Me personally, I have nothing but love for all of them.
They need to hire more people who actually wanna do their job and are passionate about helping veteran's, they have people in the front that don't wanna work, the phone lines are busy all day and when someone finally answers they put u on hold again, it's really a travesty the way veteran's are treated in this country, sad world we live in!
I’ve been sitting here for almost an hour, I’m the only person here, and nobody has even bother to acknowledge that I exist. That’s the VA motto….. let them wait long enough and they’ll die!!!!! I would say to anyone that wants to join the military……DON’T….. because the second you become a “veteran”, you don’t matter anymore!!!! You also need to understand that the Houston VA, does NOT care about you. Dr Prabhakar will lie right to your face, but so will the others. They don’t care if a veteran lives or dies. They screw up and nobody does anything. They are never held accountable. Do NOT count on the Houston VA system for ANY help!!! And to the people that say that bad reviews are because people want to complain……if it was a few then I would agree but this VA has, consistently, HORRIBLE reviews from a lot of veterans!!!!
