I’ve been receiving care from the team at White Tree for a few years now and I never realized how much anxiety the schedule of an alcoholic would bring until I could see from the outside in. My whole entire day was based around when I could get alcohol. I needed to make sure I had enough until the liquor store opened at 11am. I needed to make sure I could arrange picking up a bottle before they closed. I needed to make sure I had an emergency bottle for a holiday weekend when the closed hours are extended, etc. it was all very overwhelming. My whole day every day was based around the availability. The amount of stress was unreal. Always afraid that I was going to miss the hours and fall ill from withdrawals. Setting up five alarms for 9:30pm so I could wake up from my stupor to run to the store in time. The thought of having a family was impossible. It was like a nightmare. I began seeking help and found the team at White Tree. Within their program I would find the treatment suited for me and shortly after that the anxiety would start peeling away. When I was in the thick, I could not see a way out - luckily they could, and that’s a big part of why I am here today. They help break down the problems to a manageable size to tackle instead of one unstoppable force. It has been a couple years now and most days when it’s getting late at night the thought of rushing to the liquor store and carrying around all that stress doesn’t even cross my mind.
