Selah House

Salah house was an awesome experience. I had so much support and help in the recovery process. The teams and environment is great. I highly recommend. It has taught me to grow as a person.

I was admitted to the teen house in 2022 when I was 14. I never wanted to speak up about anything that happened there because I never thought it was "bad enough". To begin, when I was admitted, I was told by one of the nurses that her daughter also cuts herself, and she doesn't understand why, and that it is all about attention. Some of us were watched while we showered, and told we looked sexy in our vitals gowns. I was begged by a staff member to refuse my meal so she wouldn't have to sit at the table anymore, mind you, I was receiving treatment for Anorexia. During my admission, one girl was forced to sleep on a cot on the floor because they ran out of beds in the eyesight bedroom. Also, a nurse accidentally doubled my medication which caused me to get sick the next day. I was then threatened that I would be kicked out if I threw up, even though they were the ones who made me ill. We were constantly told to "hold it down" by the staff, and though that is understandable, sometimes you are genuinely ill and holding it in does not help. Recently I was in contact with a former staff member and was told that the people supervising us 24/7 only received a few hours of video training, and needed no prior experience to be hired. Personally, I would want a professional, or at least someone properly trained to be taking care of me or my child. Now, I don't know what Selah is like now, as this was years ago, but please be careful. If your child is telling you bad shit is happening and their family therapist is convincing you they are lying because it's part of the illness? BELIEVE YOUR CHILD. (My family therapist had countless phone calls to my parents telling them I was lying and it was part of the process and they should not come get me.)

Choose Selah. When you're in that scary moment of looking for treatment for a loved one, it is hard to know where to turn. For us, Selah was precisely the right thing. A low-key Christian environment, Selah provides excellent professional medical, psychological, behavioral and nutritional guidance. The structured but homey atmosphere in the beautiful wooded setting makes Selah a very safe, nurturing place to begin your healing.

Before Selah, I had several experiences at trauma centers that made me questioned if I ever wanted to get help or if my recovery was worth it. I was admitted to Selah in Summer 2023 and 2024. I learned to advocated for myself and others. Shout out to nurse Mary Adkins and Kenzie, therapists Emily and Marice! Without them I would of left Selah. I was panicking, didn't feel heard and my dietian left for a different practice. There was so many changes that happened when I was there in 2024. But overall for me, what I gained from both experience was "trust" from the clinical staff at Selah. Trust the process. I have never had that before. RC Chasey, Gwen and Stacie are amazing staff that genuinely care about the clients and their recovery. So glad to hear recently therapist Emily is taking over Christian Programming. One of the reasons I looked more into Selah was faith programming. On Sundays, I always looked forward to church in residential and php.

selah may not have been able to heal me from my eating disorder, not because their work and people aren’t great, but i believe because i have very deep internal issues i’ve struggled to work on myself for years. the program improved a lot from 2022 to 2024 (my two stays). obviously the program had its issues and iffy staff members, but overall the nurses and techs made me feel so loved. nancy, hailey, sydney, jess, christi, maggie, marcie, kati and chris the chaplain are amazing people. thank you guys for making me feel like a person.

I first went to Selah in January of 2023 and then had to return for extra support this past June. In the 2.5 years between my two stays, I saw a lot of changes and improvements made. My first stay was great, but this second time was even better. The clinical team truly cares about me as a person and were always listening to my needs and striving to meet them. The after-care coordinator, Christi, works so hard to make sure clients are set up for success post leaving Selah House. I felt seen, heard, and loved there and would recommend them to anyone seeking out treatment for an eating disorder. Thank you, Selah, for giving me my life back!

I could not be more grateful for everything God did for me at Selah. It is an amazing place and everyone there truly cares. I not only saw transformation in my own life, but I saw transformation in so many of my new found friends. I had a wonderful community that supported me throughout my time at Selah.
