Huntsman Mental Health Institute

They don't give you a room. They make you sleep in a recliner in a room full of others in their recliners. The food was worse than jail food. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS!!!!!!!!

I would NEVER EVER recommend anybody to check themselves into this institution. Their website looks like their facility is friendly and inviting but looks can be VERY deceiving. Some of the staff there are very unprofessional and disrespectful to the inmates as well as the inmates family members. Yes I said inmates, that's how they treat you like an inmate. They told my family member that if he didn't give them a sample of his blood then he wont get to get out until he does. He ended up giving a sample of his blood 2 days later and they still didn't release him until the next day in the evening. This place uses deception to the fullest extent! They keep you out of the dark about their policies and your rights. My family member walked out of that place in worse conditions than before he walked in there unwillingly.

The optimal aging program is wonderful! From the staff to the activities, everything is very helpful! It’s lovely to interact with people at a similar stage in life!!

Dr Birnkrant was our sons treating pychiatrist at his RTC while on staff at University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman. Our son expressed his suicidal plan for two weeks to him and he did not inform parents or place him on higher supervision or intervene in any way. Our son passed away there and DCFS investigation found him negligent of “severe harm” yet is still actively employed at Huntsman treating suicidal teens. Dangerous and concerning!

Went to Huntsman in severe distress, and the next thing that happens is I'm sent to jail at ADC Salt Lake City. I was put in classification and forgotten. There is no decent mental health in SLC.

I was born in the hospital as a baby! They forced me to take medication to treat something I’ve never had or experienced. To the people who understood me, thank you but for those individuals who didn’t respect my boundaries or decisions shame on you.

Told me I’d get a room in a couple hours but then told my husband they’d be observing me for 24 hours they flat out lied to me. I said I couldn’t be alone and they left me alone in a room by myself the entire time

Please don’t take your loved ones here in the middle of a crisis. They forgot to draw my blood or take urine to determine my withdrawal plan. The treatment coordinator would lie to my husband, their group of professional doctors that asked me 100 questions did nothing for me. No plan, no referrals for physicatrist or therapist. They said because I didn’t have a psychiatrist they couldn’t prescribe me anything. The dr kept me in so much pain because they didn’t believe I could be taking that much Valium bought at a pharmacy in mexico. They were my last line of hope and they completely turned on me. The last few min of my stay they came to tell me my husband called and said he wasn’t picking me up and I had to take a bus and when I called him he said he NEVER said that. They were trying to get me to break even tho I came in completely lost and hopeless: On the way out they had me change in a waiting room in front of people instead of allowing me a private room . I am devastated that after waiting so many years to reach for help that this was how I was treated. The absolutely worst place and I beg you never take your loved ones or yourself there. Now they won’t release me my paperwork unless I file a complaint. Which will do nothing but cause me more emotional damage
