Recovery Ways - Brunswick Place

Did 30 days in patient here. Was a very good break from the stresses of my life. A clean break from the substance abuse. Food was good. Staff was excellent. Fun activities in a beautiful setting. Very grateful for this opportunity to get clean.

Going to Recovery Ways was, for me, literally a life-saving experience. I walked in there a total shaking wreck, heavily dependent on alcohol and in the process of dying, with undiagnosed and untreated mental health issues that led to my drinking. I spent 4 days in detox, getting my physical health back and decided to spend 28 days in residential treatment there. The staff were all experienced, and many of them have been in successful recovery themselves. The treatment I received there was compassionate and effective. I learned things about myself that I had been hiding from my whole life. I was able to heal old traumas and evolve into the person I want to be, rather than the person I accidentally became. I also had FUN and connected with people that will probably be lifelong friends, After residential treatment I went into their Partial Hospitalization Program and continued to receive education and help in building healthy thoughts and habits. I learned to respond to life, rather than reacting to it. My anxiety and depression melted away, layer by layer as I turned into a more effective and happy version of myself. Today I am 4 months sober, but I've learned that sobriety is just a side-effect of living the life that I choose. I do not believe that I could have done this without the wonderful humans at Recovery Ways, and all the care and love (and FUN) they shared with me. Highly recommended. And don't listen to the talk about the food. My nutritional skills also improved as a result of living there for 60 days. It may not be Club-Med, but that's not the purpose of being there. (They serve a salsa there that is better than I have ever had anywhere else.)

The $50 I spent adopting my cat was a better investment for my mental health than the thousands of dollars Recovery Ways eagerly took from me. I’ve been out of treatment for a few months, and the results are clear - my mental health is worse now than it was before I began treatment. Save yourself the money and try something else - private equity and its grubby hands have rendered Recovery Ways useless for anything beyond trying to turn a profit. I’ll give y’all 2 stars instead of 1, because at least some of the employees haven’t taken off the mask of caring about people. That’s more than I can say for the overwhelming majority of employees in America’s “healthcare” industry.

I voluntarily admitted myself to Recovery Ways in September 2023. When I was calling about admissions I was staying in the behavioral unit of St. Marks Hospital, and Recovery Ways made accommodations for one of their team members to pick me up straight from the hospital. In-take was very fast. The staff at Recovery Ways Residential Care (Copper Hills) were very nice and friendly. They were able to make professional connections to each client, including myself. Although they weren't qualified to make treatment plans, diagnosis etc. they offered to have 1:1 discussions with clients if they weren't able to speak to a therapist on-site or on-call. For me, the situation wasn't as dire, or needed medical intervention, but they still talked to me about a struggle I was going through with my family. The occupational therapists are very sweet and insightful. Yes, they do help clients shop for nicotine, or do smoking supply runs every week. But, when I was at Recovery Ways (copper hills) it was clear to me that they weren't going to associate themselves with forcing clients/patients to adhere to strict guidelines but rather held us accountable for our actions. For instance, I was told by therapists and staff members that it is my choice if I want to pick up smoking, but they advised strongly to clients/patients to do their best to not pick up smoking habits as it will stunt our overall recovery from other substances or make it harder to receive successful treatment. The other residents/clients who smoked would also tell me to not start smoking or vaping. My therapist did have me go over my past trauma with her, but it was so she could have a better understanding of my case. The Med Technician who administered my prescriptions to me helped advocate for me to my psychiatrist appointed by Recovery Ways about having ongoing PTSD related night terrors. Because of him, I was able to be put on a sleeping pill and another medication that helps with PTSD night terrors. I went into Recovery Ways experiencing suicidal ideation (and having recently attempted), urges to self-harm, mania and lots of other symptoms/diagnoses. But, at the end of my treatment (after moving to Brunswick) I was able to recover successfully. Two years later and my GAD is in remission, my psychotic symptoms that was diagnosed alongside my Bipolar 1 Disorder is no longer affecting me. I have also stayed with their recommended psychiatrist when I was being discharged from Recovery Ways. And their excursions for physical activity/occupational therapy activities were kind of like surprises but they still gave us a few minutes to get dressed for the activities. Overall, my experience was amazing and every staff in each Recover Ways building were very helpful. I don't know if the chef at Brunswick is still working there, but in 2023 he was an amazing cook and made sure each meal he made satisfied the residents/clients. I'd recommend Recovery Ways for anyone.

I am writing this review to share my extremely disappointing experience with Recovery Ways Treatment Center. From the outset, the unprofessionalism of the staff was glaringly apparent. Not only were they inept at conflict resolution and inconsistent with rules, but they also engaged in gossiping and talking behind my back, which created a toxic and unwelcoming environment. What's most disheartening is that when I reached out for help during a critical time, I was turned away. This lack of support and empathy is unacceptable for a treatment center that claims to prioritize patient care. I cannot recommend Recovery Ways Treatment Center to anyone seeking reliable and compassionate support. The unprofessional conduct, backstabbing behavior, and failure to provide assistance when it was desperately needed have left me deeply concerned about the center's standards of care.

They start off seeming very nice, and the staff is friendly at first. But once you’ve been there for a while and they find out more about you, they begin to treat you judgmentally. There are about two or three people there who are genuinely sincere and do care, but the rest seem to be more focused on control than compassion. Beware of this company they’re manipulators who take advantage of people trying to recover. I remember one of the other occupants there threatened my life, and when I wanted to leave because my job and home was on the line, they refused to release me. I was basically held hostage for 30 days. Be cautious about that one clause in their agreement. Also, every time you take a drug test, you’ll be charged even though they don’t tell you that upfront. Those are hidden fees that show up only after you leave the clinic.

You will send your loved one there an alcoholic and return addicted to vaping. They don’t allow you to send any of that with them. After they are there two weeks they give them access to a smoke shop with delivery’s to the door. Shifting addiction to something else is all they do.

I would put 0 stars if it were possible. I won't have enough space to say everything, so I will say what I can. I was admin here for mental health on 4-29-2025. I was discharged on 5-5-2025 suicidal to my house because of a legality they didn't want to deal with. They will never admit to it so they don't get into trouble, however how things went down I'm pretty positive that's why. The clinical director Linda orchestrated the whole thing. She talks to me with my case manager Tyson, tells me I'm going to another place that only deals with mental health, I found out was a lie & makes me sign a white box on a computer screen to which I have no clue what I'm signing while emotionally distraught & she knows I'm currently suicidal. Instead of keeping me here until I get to the other place she discharged me home. She wasn't willing to wait until family can pick me up she cordinates a driver to take me home. Staff helps me pack my things & I have no time to verify if it's all there. I'm almost home and I realize my wallet and some other belongings of mine behind the desk are still there. My husband drove me back to get them. I get home and it's 8 pm & I realize they never gave me my meds. I call and find out I was supposed to sign saying I have my meds. I tell them they should have to bring them to me since it's their mistake. They tell me they won't bring things to someone they forgot. I tell them that legally they were supposed to & it's dumb to send a suicidal person home w/o their meds, they won't budge. I go back at 10:30 & it takes them 1 hour to count my meds. I finally sign for everything. I get home & don't have my phone charger & some more things. I call them the next morning & again at noon. They say they will check & call back. I had to call 3 hours later. I go to get my things that evening. I received an email earlier that day saying I discharged at 11:35 pm when I signed everything, another legality. Now today 5-8-2025 they can't even be bothered to fax lab results to my specialist who ordered it so I can go over it. They treated me less than human & a lot of legalities. I will tell everyone NEVER to go here, worst mental health facility ever! Update: The place I was supposed to go to just told me I'm not a good fit. So now I have to contact my insurance company to figure out where else to go. So recovery ways discharged a mentally distraught person to home and no where else to go. They're damn lucky I want to get better or my husband would have a lawsuit against them if I were to hurt myself or kill myself!
