Wilmington Mental Health

My husband started with his ADHD testing back in Sept. They do not take insurance and the cost is 1,000 to do this special testing. After hours of computerized testing he said he would have the results in a few weeks. It's almost Jan and we are still waiting. No one has attempted to call or schedule for a follow up.

Lisa McCormick is the best therapist i could’ve asked for! i have been seeing her for about a year and half now and i couldn’t have gotten a better therapist than her. i use telehealth bc i no longer live in wilmington and it has helped me tremendously. without telehealth i most likely wouldn’t be a patient here bc its convenient for my job and i cant drive to wilmington all the time now that i moved to the raleigh area. 10/10 recommend Lisa!!

After a recent positive change with my new doctor, Brooke, I've updated this to 3 stars. ​First, I want to be unequivocally clear: my therapist at Wilmington Mental Health is wonderful, and this review is not a reflection on her excellent care. My new medication doctor, Brooke, is also fantastic—understanding and easy to speak with. I truly wish they had started me with her, as it would have saved everyone a lot of stress. ​My negative rating is for the administrative team. While I understand the need for policies like drug screens for medication, the inflexible application of this policy was unprofessional. The central issue was forcing an in-person screen despite my clearly explaining I had no transportation. The staff's refusal of any one-time accommodation was the core problem. ​This inflexibility triggered a severe mental health crisis. But what was worse was the shocking phone etiquette. While I was actively in tears, an employee named J hung up on me. Another, A, responded to my crisis by asking, "Well, want me to refer you elsewhere?"—a nonsensical "solution" when the core issue is transportation. This coldness and lack of basic compassion from staff over the phone was appalling. ​Adding to the chaos was the constant doctor turnover (Brooke is my third) and a disjointed system where doctors often video-chat from remote locations. ​While I highly value my therapist and Dr. Brooke, I remain cautious. I am hopeful for future consistency, but I stand by my criticism of the terrible phone etiquette.

The staff are horrible and every single one of them needs to be fired. My provider was great but she quit and I can’t get prescriptions refilled without an appointment and no one is taking new patients. This place is unethical, the administrative staff are mean, rude and treat everyone as if they are court ordered to be there, the place is consistently filthy: urine specimen sticks on the floor, medical assistants smell like their last shower was pre- 9/11. You are better going untreated than going here.

Highly unprofessional. Impossible to get refills. Front desk and health care providers in the back are not on the same page at all. DR.Jackie is amazing and very respectful and nice. The rest of the staff is unprofessional and unorganized.

​I want to be fair, so I'll start with the one positive: I truly value my therapist. She is wonderful, and this review does not reflect on her care. ​My 1-star rating is for the medical and administrative team, whose policies and conduct have been inflexible, unprofessional, and actively harmful to my mental health. ​The core issue was a rigid policy forcing me to come in-person for a drug screen for my ADHD medication. I explained my difficult circumstances clearly: I do not have a vehicle and could not get there. They refused to accommodate me even this one time. ​When I was trying to solve this with an employee named Al, his response was, "Well, want me to refer you elsewhere?" This is a shocking lack of common sense. If I cannot drive to your office, how does referring me to another office help? ​Their complete lack of empathy and rigidness over this one appointment triggered a severe mental health crisis. I was left "crashing out" and in tears, and the staff "didn't give a damn." It is shocking that a mental health facility would treat a person in crisis with such coldness. ​In one instance, an employee named Joe hung up on me while I was actively going through this "crash out." ​To make matters worse, they are constantly changing my medical doctor, making any kind of stability impossible. In my time here, I've been passed from Jackie, to Tracy, and now to yet another new doctor, Brooke. This constant turnover is wild for a place supposedly treating mental health. ​I am appalled by my experience. While I love my therapist, I cannot recommend Wilmington Mental Health as long as this is how their medical and admin teams treat patients.

My daughter has been here multiple times for med management. Today we went for a regular check up/prescription refill that we’ve had multiple times this past summer. For reference, we’ve seen Tracy, the nurse practitioner. Today we saw Brooke Maple. They proceeded to draw blood from my daughter stating this is what the provider requires with new patients when I questioned it. Again, we are just here for a refill in prescription/check up. We got called back to the waiting area and saw another gentleman who we’ve seen multiple times get her vitals. When he asked us why we were here to see Brooke, I simply stated we were just there to get a refill in her prescription. He looked confused as to why he needed to take her vitals and said “oh yeah, you guys usually just do a script refill. Tracy isn’t with us anymore either”. No clue in that news. So we got ushered into the room to wait for Brooke to come in. We went through the motions of stating why we were here and what was going on. I stopped and questioned her and stated “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize we were seeing you and also that she was required to get blood drawn when she’s an established patient already”. Brooke literally looked at me and said “well I don’t know who ordered the labs. That wasn’t me”. Flabbergasted I looked at her and said “it was you that ordered it”. Her response? “Well they must have made a new policy over the weekend”. Ma’am, it’s Tuesday. Clearly you knew, that’s just a cop out. So needless to say, take heed of the bad reviews and absolutely. Do. Not. Go. Here. No one communicates. My daughter is 11 and does not need to be subjected to a drug screening when she is there for adhd medicine. Also doubt that Brooke put in a script refill since I haven’t had a notification from her pharmacy of a script being put in. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else to go.

I started going to Wilmington Mental Health 20 August 2025. My first consult was very thorough and after that I had three personal appointments. Since that time, I have been moved into group therapy and I can actually say that I feel much better in a short amount of time. Tha scheduling and front desk staff have always been courteous and treat me in a highly professional manner. Don't take this personally, but I was never a big fan of "Shrinks". My mind has been completely changed and Mr. Joseph Rengifo is a large part of that. His words, knowledge and compassion have been so helpful for me. I will continue to attend my sessions and in so doing try to work on the many deficiencies I have to improve myself as a human being and to become a better person. If your looking for mental health counseling, I encourage you to give Wilmington Mental Health a try.
