I am in my 60's. I am a retired firefighter. I served 28 yrs., volunteered for paramedic school (Parkland Hosp.) and served (7) seven yrs. on the box (ambulance). I consider my career as a firefighter & medic (at that time) to have been my 'calling'. Now, I would say it was a season of purpose. As I was blessed to have (2) of the best fire officers I would ever have - 1st - my Captain was an Army Veteran, served as a Corpsman in Vietnam. He was a man of great honesty & integrity. 2nd - i was also blessed to have a Lt.(who was Army) who was a pilot for Angel Flight: He flew children stricken with cancer to hospitals all across the country for treatment. Lt. not only had the same attributes as my Capt., he was a servant of the highest order. Our crew was family. I had a brother medic who was 'Aces' and somewhat crazy (as he was a prankster beyond compare) yet as good a medic as one could be. The medics who relieved us were also awesome. During my time as a medic, I had trials & tribulations (as we all do), along with the blessing of my career. I was diagnosed with a certain psychiatric diagnosis. This became a blessing as well as a curse. I most certainly became aware of who my true friends were, yet was seen by many through 'rose colored glasses'. This 'sight' prohibited me from promoting above Driver/ eng. I have absolutely no complaints I promise you - I would not trade one trial nor tribulation, nor any of the blessings or miracles i have had in my life: as i would not now be testifying to the compassion, empathy, skill, and beauty of those who serve as a team with MHMR. Some (29) twenty-nine yrs. removed from my duty on the box (as a medic) with my illustrious partner, we had a lengthy conversation (by phone) the point he made being - he never believed the diagnosis i was given. His assertion was that I had been in a very difficult marriage + the tragedy I had shared with him (prior to my career with the fire servjce) led me to a severe depression. His suggestion was that I proceed to where my brother had been diagnosed and was currently being treated. His righteous thought was for me to go there, be honest as I had been with him, and share my story and be 'reevaluated'. The entity happened to be MHMR. After about (5) five months of counseling & evaluation, I was rediagnosed as having had MDD (Major Depressive disorder). I was also advised that I no longer needed to see a psychiatrist, nor take psychiatric meds. I was told that if I ever felt the need for help, do as I had done (some 33 yrs. ago) and seek help - they just didn't believe I would need to. I have not.
The case managers and doctors are well educated and nice. The ladies at the front desk are nasty and aggressive, one of them slammed their fists on the desk window dividers while speaking to a patient of gulf coast. It's not a safe environment.
Please keep HIPAA especially for my 19 year daughter whom apparently is scared of being called roaches ratchet bia. She's beautiful, and will be coming to recovery soon. Thank you for the prayers Drea Sue. Please respect my peace. God bless President Donald J Trump.
When I told them what time I could not make it. They scheduled me only at times I can not make. Tell me to wait on a call for change. With no chance. Over and over again....Straight up trash.
They care about their clients and treat their patients with the utmost respect. Love it !!!

They saved my life
So I've been with them for a long time and they keep asking me the same questions where I know well what my problem is. But do you know what bothers me? Do they even care despite my condition that I meditate on four steps for a Godly psychiatry? Where I have no need for the medicine and just eat what it has. 1. The Ten commandments 2. Psalm 23 3. The Lord's prayer 4. The one that requires more thinking of and walking with Christ and The beautitudes.
