I've been a patient there for 10 years and have my couselor for the last 2 yeats has been Rachel Mills; she is an innately empathetic person and this trait has made her an absolute invaluable member of my overall health care. She is a wonderful listener and knows exactly how to steer some of my ADD tangents during our individual sessions. For example, since January of 2023 when I contracted covid, I have been suffering from really bad brain fog which quite frequently makes me forget what I am talking about, midsentence (a very frustrating and quite embarrassing occurrence). I am also going through a very recent and serious medically diagnosis, but without ever me asking her to accommodate me in any special way, at the end of our last session she handed me a post-it note with the bullet points of what we talked about and steps I need to take next that she had been jotting down without me noticing since our session started. It was the most touching and kind acts anyone has ever done for me.
Another example is that she also has been amazing dealing with my near constant short term memory issues while we talk and she notices when I started to lose track of thought and she will very casually steer me vack to what I was just talking about, allowing me to remember the point I was initially trying to make, without embarrassing me or even making me aware.
I have been working on this for 35 years and have been in and out of therapy since I was 16, and traits like Rachel's simply cannot be taught. It is simply who Rachel is as a person, and it is what makes her such an wonderful and effective counselor. And I have never been so moved and touched by those 2 simple accommodations that she initiated without me ever having to ask. It was one of the most simply and kindest things anyone has done for me aside from siblings and immediate family. I've been seeing psychiatrists, therapists, psychologists, doctors, etc.. in the last 30 years. Most people will never have more than one session with such a couselor of her quality.
