My experience at Ethan Crossing in Indianapolis was awful and I do not recommend this facility. Many staff were rude and dismissive toward patients. On my second day I asked for my clothes because I was wearing a gown with nothing underneath. The nurse looked at me and said we were too busy to get my clothes and that I would have to wait. It was humiliating.
They stopped all of my medications and started new ones after only two days. On day three I was given the wrong medication. When I asked my provider why she had prescribed it she said she had not. The nurse then denied having given me the extra medication. I asked them to check the cameras to confirm what happened and I never heard anything back. Being given incorrect medication and then denied answers felt dangerous and unacceptable.
Some staff behaved inappropriately and several yelled at patients. There were moments that felt unsafe and chaotic. I was admitted voluntarily but was kept for eight days. Behavioral health and substance use patients are mixed together there, which I believe is not appropriate and made the environment worse for everyone.
I went in to get my meds straightened out and to feel more stable, but I could not sleep because I was afraid someone might enter my room at any time. That constant fear made it impossible to get the help I needed.
There were some positives. Most of the mental health technicians were fantastic and truly seemed to care. The art therapist was amazing and did her best to bring a sense of normalcy amid the chaos. Those staff members were the only ones who consistently listened and tried to help.
Overall it felt lawless and unsafe, and I will never go back. If you are seeking inpatient psychiatric care in Indianapolis, look for other options. There are far better facilities that treat patients with respect, communicate clearly, and keep medication protocols reliable.
